Could Blu-Ray make 2x the minimum spec for drives? - Blu-ray Forum

I was just wondering as 2x Blu-Ray drives have been developed, and the format hasn't been properly released, whether the BR group could make the min trabnsfer rate 2x and therefore 72Mbps. This would surely have advantages for the capabilities of the format itself.

I thought the agreed spec was 1x 36Mbps!?

Yeah

But players / recorders will already support a higher rate than 1x at the beginning

But will software be able to utilise a 2x drive. That's what I'm getting at.

Well yeah.
The software for the commercial players and recorders aren't in their final phase yet I believe...

We seem to have no news from Sun in ages :?
