No it's definitely not normal. If it's still under warranty I recommend you contact Onkyo. I have a 605 and the only time it clicks is when it's switching audio modes, which is when a blu-ray is switching between Dolby Digital for the previews to Multichannel PCM for the movie itself.

I agree with the fireman, same story with my 805. Most of the time it's for going between HDCP & non HDCP content too; handshaking. if it's under warrenty get in touch with Onkyo now, cause before ya know it, you may have put it off too long and missed your warrenty period to get it fixed for free. I hate to quote the song, but, how long has this been going on!

No matter what, it shouldn't be clicking for no reason in the middle of a movie. I would try swapping it out if it were me, just to be on the safe side. If you let it go it could develop into a worse problem. I'm not sure about the whole box issue, but I would think as long as you paid for the extended warranty and have your receipt/warranty paperwork it shouldn't be a problem.

It happens during movies? Are you watching movies on TV or on a BD/DVD? The clicking might be the result of switching DSP's (going from Dolby Digital to Stereo will make a click). This can happen a lot depending on your settings, especially when commercials come on. But if it's happening when watching a disc, then that's not normal.

i think what the OP means is when he goes from multich/dts ma/true hd to NON lossless format that the radio 'clicks'
make sure for your NON hd format that you use a PRO LOGIC II setting switching from DD/DTS MA/TRUE HD/MULTICH to stereo = 'clicking noise' switching from DD/DTS MA/TRUE HD/MULTICH to a pro logic mode = NO clicking noise. |

I had the same problem which got progressively worse till I had to send it out to be fixed. Took 'em over two months to get a stupid part. I hope if you need it fixed it's faster for you. Good unit, terrible warranty service.

Better for which source? Which one won't let you select PLII?
Most users around here select Multichannel when watching Blu-ray discs. When watching TV, I used to select TV Logic but I have switched to Pro Logic IIx. Now when you listen to music, you're probably going to want to have it set to Stereo. This will make it click, though. Or you can try using All Channel Stereo, which will not make it click. It all depends on what you like. |

i usually skim thru the instruction booklet when i buy something and go right to trying to figure things out. after a week or so i actually READ the instruction booklet as now i know where everything is and the 'little things' i dont know stick well as i know all the basics. PLII & PLIIx are the same except PLIIx adds 'height speakers' for 9.1 sound....its not a TRUE 9.1 as there arent 9 discrete channels. so unless you have 'height speakers' installed above your fronts, do NOT use PLIIx......just use reg PLII for stereo sounding progrtams (usually all NON hd stuff) to matrix it into 5.1 sound HD tv = select dolby digital blu's from ps3 = multichannel reg source tv (non hd) = PLII movie (theres also PLII Games & PLII Music mode) |

Hi.
Ive just set up and installed the Onkyo 607 with my Boston Soundware XS 5.1. It sounds great, other than when playing from TV and mode PLIIx movie it makes a buzz noise from the surround speakers, like an alien kinda sound when people are talking, music is not problem but as said when people talk i hear this weird sound. This is ONLY for the surround, the fronts/center are perfect. Its not very hearable, so I need to put my ear like 4" from the surrounds to hear it. Can anyone do the same ? ![]() When selecting all channels i hear everyting perfect. I have not yet done the room correction with Audyssey as ive not had time, you think this will solve it ?? Im desperat, I will return the Onkyo if I cant fix it., hlp Greetings from Norway! ![]() Last edited by 029kid; 07-06-2010 at 09:28 AM. |
