'Hancock' sequel hires writing duo

Quote:
"Hancock 2" is taking shape.

Columbia has hired scribes Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to pen the sequel to the Will Smith superhero movie, which grossed $624 million worldwide last year. The original producing team is expected to return.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the scribes will work with Smith and director Peter Berg to build on the world hinted at in the first movie.

The original starred Smith as a boozy, irresponsible superhero who undergoes an image makeover by a public relations man. It later is revealed that the hero is part of a line of immortal beings who have been around for more than 3,000 years and begin to lose their powers when in proximity to fellow immortals.

"Hancock," originally titled "Tonight He Comes," took more than 12 years to make it to the screen; the sequel will be on a faster track.

ICM-repped Fierro spent several seasons as a writer-producer on FX's "The Shield" and also worked on Fox's "24" and Showtime's "Dexter."

Mazzara, repped by CAA, was a showrunner on Starz's "Crash," wrote for NBC's "Life" and worked with Fierro on "Shield."
----------------------------------------------------------

Quote:
Although not based on a comic book, last year's Will Smith-starring "Hancock" experienced all the success of a pre-established superhero. As a result, many are wondering if and when a sequel to the project might come about, including co-star Charlize Theron herself.

Peter Berg, who directed the movie, spoke with Sci Fi Wire about a potential "Hancock 2" and what that film could entail. As the first installment dealt with superpowered deities in the form of Smith and another character whose identity will be revealed after the jump—yep, that's a spoiler warning!—Berg thinks a sequel would expand upon that Godly mythology.

"There might be another god out there," Berg said. "Might be another."

In "Hancock," it's revealed that Smith's titular superhero is one of two remaining immortal gods, the other being Charlize Theron's character. The two of them become vulnerable when in close proximity of each other, resulting in a tragic romance that keeps them apart for the sake of their continued survival. A third god would certainly be an interesting angle to explore in "Hancock 2."

But don't hold your breath, because such a movie isn't likely to happen anytime soon. Both Berg and Smith have plenty of projects on their plate delaying the "Hancock" sequel, even if Smith himself is optimistic about the film.

"They like to fast-track it, but Will's busy, I'm pretty busy," Berg said. "We're excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don't feel a burning imperative to go right back into it."
-We don't feel a burning imperative to go right back into it. Thank goodness for that.

I hate when people do this. At least see a trailer before you judge. Though this maybe a bad idea, at least let them make the movie first.

I own the first one and it's a solid movie but tbh once he turned into a nice person the movie dragged a lot and stopped making sense so I think they need to hire better writers for the next movie.

Who didn't see this coming. At least we know what to expect this time though. And hopefully there won't be a bunch of misleading and plot-covering teasers this time around.

HANCOCK was such a disappointment. I suppose I shouldn't have expected much, but the premise was certainly interesting (until I was enlightened to the Watchmen universe, that is).

Wow, didn't notice the eagle there. All I have to say is...

Eat him... Rip him apart...Chew him up with your big pecker..

That was a good release of tension

Given enough time to plan the story and put together a solid script, I think this could work!

I enjoyed Hancock when I saw it in theaters, but found it to be rather weak affair upon second viewing when I got it on Blu!

I would definitely watch the sequel purely to see Will "I bet I could make a vitriolic Nazi socially acceptable and adored" Smith... He is such a likable guy!

I liked the first one. I don't own it, but remember liking it much more than reviewers. It was actually kind of depressing.

I really wish Will Smith would stop wasting time with these shite movies and get back to making decent blockbusters. Hell I would take a sequel to Independence Day right now. WS may be a Hollywood money machine right now, but his last few movies have done poorly critically (which is never normally an issue) as well as at the Box Office (well except Hancock).

Personally I would have cast him in 2012 as the lead role/action hero (Cusack's cool for RomCom, but not action), it would really have got his acting career back on track. Plus we know that Roland Emmerich and Will Smith make for a good team...

I really like Hancock and would love to see a sequel, IF they take the time to get it right. If they're going to fast-track it and half-ass it then I would prefer they didn't bother.

So 2012 is an action movie now? Nope, its a disaster movie and Cusack is fine for that.

Smith should just go away, or make something good. I walked out of seven pounds.
