Default Total novice - need help...

I have just got a half decent TV (LG 32LH3000) - its 1080p so it seems a shame to not have a blue ray player and external speakers.

Predictably however budget is tight, and the way the room is laid out means that really only 2.1 is an option - the front speakers would need to be able to go on floor stands... So my question is:

What is the best/cheapest blue ray player with 2.1 speakers combo?

Appreciate your help...

Well, I think a PS3 is the only BD player that will allow you to use external (Logitech comes to mind) speakers.

You might be able to get a used PS3 and some Logitech speakers for under $300-350. Maybe less.

A new PS3 and speakers may be more in the $500 price range.

How much would it cost to buy an amp/decoder and speakers along with a blue ray player?

You say the budget is tight, but is there an actual dollar amount? Would definitely help to know to give you some recommendations.

It is fairly flexible but £300 (not sure what that is in dollars) would be about right - more if needed...

If I were you...I would go for a 3.1 setup.

Pick up a decent HDMI receiver and [speakers] fronts, center channel and subwoofer.

Granted as you said, your room layout might prevent...but if you can fit a center channel in, I would highly recommend, as you will get much better dialogue...and still have decent front support!

3.1 sounds good.

Any recommendations?

(I have seen a Samsung HT-BD1220 for £350 ish but i'm sure you can recommend better!)

Amazon, Dabs, Comet, Dixons, Richersounds (the last is prob the best for proper kit rather than high street stuff)

Are you thinking £300 for receiver, speakers and blu-ray player?

Yeah, it would be a struggle to get everything for only £300. Is there a maximum amount you could put towards it right now? You could always go the HTiB route, but I'd say get everything separate. You could always start building it slowly if you don't have all the funds to get everything now. Start off with one piece and work from there.
