Best $200 Blu-ray Player - Blu-ray Forum

Hey gang - it's time to finally replace the Tank...the BDP-S300 has some issues in certain shots on certain titles (Planet Earth, Sweeney Todd, Taken, Braveheart) so it's time for a new player.

What would you guys buy? What is the best player in the $230 and under range? Obviously looking for something 2.0 compliant. If you guys could help, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Looking to buy in 10 days.

Any other recommendations? My home network is wireless, so looks like I'll need something that can accept a wireless dangle for BDLive and firmware updates. I'm wondering if I should just buy a PS3...

Would have been another suggestion but it won't fall under the budget...

Yeah, that's going to take some negotiating with Mrs. Rister. But if it's the best solution, we can swallow the extra $100. She's pissed I want to replace the Tank in the first place.

I'll go with the Panasonic BD 60 or the Sony 360. Disregard any of the Samsung BD players!

You have to consult with the banker first before any purchase...

I've got a 5 dvd Samsung that's been a champ since 2003.

She knows what's wrong the BDP S300...at least, she knows what's wrong with the one we have. It's got some glitch...certain scenes on certain titles have flickering digital niose, and Braveheart is practically unwatchable. Another BDP S300 owner says his is fine, so I'm assuming it's just my player.

What has happened is this: Samsung has failed to provide firmware support for all of their older players. The Samsung 1000 and 1200 are notorious for their history of failing to play BD movies, not as of now, but as of over a year and a half ago. Samsung has an ongoing lawsuit due to their reluctance to support those players. I own a Samsung 1400, and it will not play some of the newer Sony movies. I have contacted Samsung Support, and that is the biggest waste of time anyone can possibly imagine. In addition, I am aware of dozens of people with the same issue who have been shunned by Samsung (check out the Samsung 1400 review thread:https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=samsung+1400). My brother owns a Sony 300S which was bought the same week, I purchased the Samsung...he can watch all of the BD movies in it. The new Samsung BD models are fine for now, but who knows about six months in the future. Why take the chance?

Before you spend a ton, LOOK at the Sharp BD-HP22U. I bought mine from HH Gregg two weeks ago for $169, this week it's $149! It plays the movie well, has great pic and sound and decodes both DD and DTS. It is a profile 2.0, But I personally don't care at all about connecting to the internet!
I was seriously thinking about buying the Oppo 83 until I saw the adv last Sunday. I suspect that this model will soon be gone because the price is cut all over the internet.

All I want to do, is play the movie, PERIOD!
This model has good picture and sound,
decodes both DD and DTS, and most important to me, it will send either a PCM or bitstream signal in both formats to my Yamaha.

I think it's a great player for a cheepie, if it quits in a couple of years, oh well! They all seem to be coming out with a new model with a new glitch every month or so anyway. I think it's foolish to pay $500 for an Oppo or $1200 for a Yamaha. They are changing too fast.

I am using a launch PS3 and have had no problems so far. Plus you can play the two or three good games that are out on it.

The S360 is an excellent player but if you want wireless get the S560 which is the same model with WiFi built in... Someone recommended a Sharp and IMO they're not worth owning just to save $30-$40 on a player... Wayyyy slower than my Sony and skips discs that are spotless...

Don't know how fast you need one but if you can wait 2 months you're going to start finding some killer deals on players much like last year...

I would recommend the Sony S360. Great reliable quality player from a reputable company for a reasonable price.

Sony BDP s360 is really good at that price, can't beat that offer.

The panasonic dmp-bd60 can be owned for less then $190 from Amazon this is a great player has better review then the Sony players. Better upconversion then most players and YouTube, and Amazon On Demand for movie watching. I think this player is your best bet.

I see far too many negative comments on the 60 on how it skips discs... Was that issue ever fixed?...
