Default CD/DVD/Blu-ray Storage Binders

I know I have asked this in a different tread, but I was wondering who uses binders to manage their discs?

I found these and thought that they looked pretty nice looking.

has anyone used these or something similar? I know I want them for at least my CD's, but haven't decided on whether to use them for my movies.

My main question/concern is scratches. Do discs get scratched easier using binders or do you have just as much luck scratching them if you use their jewel cases?

I would think that a binder would be more prone to scratches than a case (because of the friction when you put the disc in) but with blu-ray I'm not sure if it's really an issue.

But on another note, I prefer to use cases. The binders will save you a lot of space but I'm thinking that cases are easier to reorganize if you want to add a movie (must take a lot of time to shift discs if you want to add a new one).

Anyway, this is just my opinion. A person with using binders to organize his discs could have another point of view!

My opinion, buy 27 shelves, then make one for each letter of the alphabet and one for titles with numbers.

I will not go for binders for my blu-rays. The possibility of damage is higher when binders are used. IMO, shelves be the best option. Easy to see and easy to pick. Can showcase you collection as well...

Well, I think I am going to get some binders for my CD's since they are just sitting in a big plastic tub due to no storage space. I'm also thinking of doing it to my DVD's since I don't think I'll be adding any new ones and they are starting to be moved to piles on the floor to make room for my Blu's (I just ordered 15 more last night).

Thanks for everyones opinions.

I use binders for most of my CDs, but I don't use them for SACDs, Blu-rays, or DVDs (except for my DVD-R recordings). I think they're a great way to save on some space, especially for seldom used discs, but I wouldn't use them for everything.

Even with the cases, I have three 6 1/2' high bookshelves filled with movies, music, and games.

I've been using binders for my DVDs for 5+ years and blus for 2....never had scratches stemming from them (that I could see), and it is a great way to transport my movies easily. I still put my cases on a shelf, but I have no regrets keeping discs in binders

I currently have 20 of these binders in black and love them. You have to buy extra pages to fill the books though. Each book will hold 56 discs. They look great on the shelf along with my classic books from Easton Press. I use DVD Profiler to manage them so I know exactly where to find the specific movie I am looking for. All my cases are stored in copier boxes. Looks so much cleaner and does not have that Blockbuster look.

Do you or can you post pics of the binders with your discs in them?

When I get home tonight I will take some pictures and post them here.

I also have a books for the Criterion releases, but they hold less pages due to the booklets that come with them. I have also inserted these into the binders. But my collection is now clean and very well organized.

I had some flippers (like original Goodfellas DVD) in a binder. The side facing outwards got imprinted with a copy of the plastic flap, almost like a foggy netting. When i opened the binder had to peel it off the disc. Bought the binder at a store called Working House. It messed up the playback and I vowed never to use binders again.

Note: I do live in Taiwan and it is very humid, maybe the cause of stuff sticking to other stuff. I have also noticed on some DVDs....tiny bits of what can be best described as white mold, again probably caused from the high level of humidity.

Thanks. I'm still deciding if I want those that look more "book-like" or something like the CaseLogic binder. I've decided that only my CD's and DVD's will be put in these. Blu's will stay in their cases (for now).

I used to user the Case Logic binders with a zipper, but I did not like the way they looked on my shelf. Also I hated opening the zipper everytime. The books just looked classy to me and look great on a bookshelf with my classic books that I collect. Also they are easier to open. Just pick what fits your needs best.
