Ghost in the Shell 2.0 Blu-ray

Ghost in the Shell 2.0 Blu-ray Review

Did anyone happen to pick up this title on Tuesday? On Amazon the release date says Nov 24th but I bought it at Best Buy for 19.99 today. A very nice transfer I might add.

Didn't realize this was out early. Does it include the original version of the film as well, or only the 2.0 redux?

It includes both versions. I thought about picking it up yesterday but I wanted to do some research on the internet. Most of the websites have it listed to come out Nov 24th. So today I pick it up just in case Best Buy put it out by mistake. They had plenty of copies.

Best Buy has an exclusive earlier release for Ghost in the Shell 2.0 but it's still 1 week early then it's supposed to be.

Are you sure what you bought was Ghost in the Shell 2.0 and not Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence?

One is the original film featuring the Major going up against the Puppet Master, the sequel centers on Bato.

Well it could be 2.0 because Best Buy has the exclusive early release and then the Best Buy employees just put it out on the shelves a week early since they already got the shipment of copies in and probably have no idea that it comes out next week not this week.

Lol. This is Ghost in the Shell 2.0. I thought Best Buy made a mistake yesterday and went home to check online. Release date on Amazon was Nov. 24th. Went to BB today and they had 5 copies out. Mind you this is in Maryland. I can't vouch for other states. It's not in the sale papers or anything. I just happend to roll up on it. Both versions of the movie are included. I did check out the other Bonus Features but the 2.0 looks fantastic. The CGI 3D takes it to a whole new level. Think Appleseed 2 on Blu-Ray. Great effects.

It's Ghost in the Shell 2.0, not Innocence. The Best Buy here also put it out yesterday along with Blood: The Last Vampire (the anime movie). It includes the 2.0 "redux" along with the original version of the film as a bonus feature (no mention of that on the case). I haven't had a chance to watch my copy yet, but people have reported that the original version is 1080i, 2.0 DD, and poor quality. I suppose that's better than not having it at all. Ghost in the Shell 2.0 and Blood: The Last Vampire are both $19.99 at BB.

That is true about the original version on this blu-ray. The quality is horrible. I have the special version on DVD so it's no big deal. Those expecting 1080P for the original version should not buy this blu-ray.

Thanks for the info. I really only want the original as the 2.0 crops off 30% of the image and I prefer the original cell animation.

I just picked up Ghost In the Shell 2.0 on blu-ray at one of the Best Buy stores here in Tucson, AZ. They had five copies on the shelf.

However the 2.0 version of the movie looks amazing. I think I would have a hard time going back to the original anyway. There are some things about the original that I prefer, probably because I have known and loved it for many years but overall I think the new 2.0 version is the better of the two. Better sound effects, better picture quality, better animation.

The extra's are the standard extra's that have been released with each release of the movie on DVD.

Personally I wish they would have left the original off this disc and included DTS-HD instead of the DTS-ES but oh well. The second Ghost in the Shell didn't have HD sound either. Still a huge improvement over the original DVD though.

I do think they should have released the original Ghost in the Shell on blu here in the states in full HD glory because this release is like a kick in the teeth to purists.

Well at least the original is included (and to be honest, I probably can't tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p anyway).

Will be picking this up shortly, I'm curious to see the changes made in the 2.0 version.

So no lossless audio on another GITS movie? The JP release has a 6.1 True HD track but the import is 80-90$$

Amazon hardly ever has the correct specs for anything.

That said, from what I've read, the DTS track on this new blu-ray is absolutely fantastic.
