This question might be better posed in the LCD thread, but my understanding it that it uses edge lighting, which is not that great. The XBR8 was a better TV.

Just for my information, what is driving you to the Sony XBR?

Out of all the people on here no one can help me out? Lol I just want to make sure I don't make a bad choice in buying this tv. I haven't seen any reviews on it. I had fun with my XBR4 I think it's time for me to step it up a notch.

I just always had Sony products and none ever went bad on me. So I guess I'm gonna stick with it. Is there a better tv out there doesn't have to be Sony.

I personally don't know the specs on the XBR10, but have always been more than satisfied with Sony's products. I would say to look into the specs and price difference of the XBR8 and the XBR10. If you feel the price difference is worth it...go for it. If the difference is not that great go with the cheaper one price-wise and save some money.

PS. Why do you feel the need to upgrade from the XBR4? I also have an XBR4 and still love it

its at xbr10 already? I worked at best buy less than 2 years ago and I think they had the xbr4 still (grey with the glass edges and blue sony logo that lit up right?). A tad ridiculous they have gone thru models that quick. I haven't cared for the newer ones since they got rid of the glass outer panels. If the xbr8 is better than the xbr10...well I'd go that route especially if it is quite a bit cheaper. Calibrated the xbr8 will provide better overall results if the edgelit led xbr10 supposedly has some issues.

the XBR8 has the better black levels (and thus higher contrast ratio/better overall PQ) because it uses back-lit LED's instead of edge-lit LED's like the XBR10.

Amazon has the Sony Bravia XBR KDL-55XBR8 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Triluminos LED LCD HDTV for $3,927.77 with free shipping
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Bravia-KD...6266454&sr=8-5

I couldn't find the XBR10 on Amazon (maybe i'm retarded ) but on the Sony site it is listed as $4,999.99
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...81657#overview

I would personally go for the XBR8 because it has better PQ and it is cheaper. Hope this helps mate

(P.S. The XBR-10 also comes with the wireless box)

I guess my opinion doesn't count.

Well, this can quickly go down the plasma/LCD path. So, other than the fact that you have never had any problems with Sony. Are there particular features that you want? What is your viewing environment like? Bright? Light controlled? What is the largest screen you would consider for the $4-5K price range? (A 65" plasma fits in that price range).

I have not seen the XBR10, but I have seen the XBR8 side by side with a plasma and it is probably the closest you will get to plasma quality picture (color/contrast).

I assumed that every year a new model arrives. In just 2 years it jumped from xbr4to xbr10. Im wondering whats the cause for this? Whats the hurry about upgrading all these XBRs in very little time. Everytime I hear about a new XBR from Sony Ill be like WAT DA HECK! ALREADY? lol...

It's a real pain in the crack I agree mate ! It seems as though nowadays, the only thing you're safe with for a few years are speakers. Everything else gets upgraded twice a year at least. In a way, it sort of puts you off investing a load of dosh into a particular product when you see it superceded a few months down the line.

I payed £5k for my 8G Kuro, and a few months later they bought out the 9G for less lol ! ******s !

The XBR10 is the thinnest model they have ever produced, and it's wireless (except for the A/C). The idea is to mount it on the wall without all the wires hanging down. I'd like to put one on the ceiling in my bedroom. Set the sleep timer, and it's dreamland.
