Default Good choice for a Reciever?

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Onkyo...oductDetail.do

just got my tv so its on to audio now, its gonna be comming from my computer as the source (HDMI out) and primarily for Blu ray watching (my video card has 1.3a hdmi out) so i was gonna pass an hdmi cable to my reciever and then to my tv from the reciever. Will this be a good reciever for that sort of setup, or do i need to go 1 higher in the onkyo line up?

What is your budget? The Onkyo 606 is very good for the price range, auditioning being best practice though.

If you like that receiver, then go for it. You can get it for $50 less (including shipping) from the link in my sig.

I would look at this as well.

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V663...1282057&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STR-DG920...1282174&sr=1-1

Listen to all three, if you can, and see what you like.

Will your computer be bitstreaming the audio or passing it PCM? If it is passing it PCM, there are some other options....

You can get the Onkyo 805 for around $550 (without shipping or anything else included) which is a really good deal. You just have to wait for it to get back in stock.

These Marantz receivers accept PCM only, but offer very good quality. All of the options listed should work for you, I would suggest going out to give them a listen and see what you like best. Also, look at each of the receivers feature set.

When I say feature set I mean; HDMI inputs, DAC's, preprocessing capabilities, GUI interface, etc.

He will be passing LPCM, the Xonar HDAV1.3 is only available in Europe right now (why would they bring it out there first?) - it's the bitstreaming audio card. He will be running 7.1 audio from the video card - tells me that he either has a G45 chipset, a 48XX OR 46XX video card or a NV 8200 chipset. All of these do LPCM.

OP - if you have the AMD 48XX or 46XX series cards - stay away from - I say again stay away from the Yamaha 663. You will need a dvi Genfleck to do your HDMI audio. I'm not an Onkyo fan but the 606 (its a good receiver) will recongnize the AMD as HDMI - the Yamaha sees it as a DVI (AMD is supposed to be working on that driver issue).

Good ideal however to do HTPC !!!!! I'm very happy with mine

I've got the 705 which doesn't heat up as much as the 805 and is smaller, I believe, than the 606, if size matters. Great AVR!

IMHO I would go for this. However its the 805 which I'm not sure if they are going to get anymore in stock seeing as how the newer models are now out.

I actually went to Circuit City about to buy the 606 for $399 and they were out of stock so I was going to get the 705 instead, but for the same price I was able to get the 805 open box. So I went with the 805. GREAT receiver.

If the 805 doesn't come back in stock or you can't wait much longer, there's always the 705. (until it's gone ) The 805 is $650 shipped at Amazon and it's new if you like the 805 better.
