I just checked amazon.ca, as i was thinking of starting to get blu's there because of the awesome sales eveyone always talks about. However they are just as high as getting it from any local store where I live. What's the deal?

I had no Idea they priced Blu-Rays at $50 and think $39 is a sale, And i thought $39 was too much why are these prices higher then in the stores. Yet Amazon.com has great deals on blu-rays? |

Prices for Blu-ray's on Amazon.ca are mostly outrageous, but it pays to peruse the site and keep your eyes on the Hot Deals forum here as well. Most guys buy their new BD's from BB, FS , DVDNGG and a few others. For used deals look at BockBuster and Rogers Video. I haven't needed to spend more than $20 for the vast majority of BD's I've purchased this year. It also helps to wait a few weeks for new release titles, as their price usually drops after some time has elapsed. I guess what I'm saying is that you need to be a smart consumer. John |

Amazon.ca's prices are a lot better than they used to be. Still no where near Amazon.com on a consistent basis, but they have had some good deals, such as Fast and Furious on Blu-Ray for $14.99 a couple of weeks after it's release. Finding a good deal last year on Amazon.ca was pretty much non existent.

I understand that the Canadian market is smaller and that distribution cost and taxes may also be higher, but the difference compared to the US is often staggering.
Up is $22.99 on amazon.com and over $30 in Canada. Box sets, such as Rocky, can easily have a $40 difference. The only way to change this is by refusing to buy from amazon.ca and going elsewhere. The sad thing is, Amazon could clean up in Canada if the prices were competitive. Best Buy and Future Shop aren't competitive either and their prices would be easy to beat. Amazon could make it so consumers never looked anywhere else if they offered similar prices to those offered in the US. I would have perhaps ordered 20 titles in the recent sale if I didn't have to pay the ridiculously high shipping and import fees. Instead, I will give my business to local independent retailers that make the effort to offer decent deals, and buy the rest from Columbia House Canada. Amazon.ca needs to improve. |
