Help with Sub Set up

First let me start by saying that i am very new to this...

I had an old HTIB Samsung that did not have a powered sub, so I upgraded to an AA 10 (400) Watt sub and yesterday after connecting it i am noticing that my old sub was Louder! I turned the Freq all the way to its max and the volume to about 70 percent however don't understand why it seem as though my old one was louder and had more "bang" ...

Any ideas, on my old sub I did not do anything in turns of turning up the bass on the reciver why would i need to do that now?
