Default Onkyo 805 Display/Dimmer problem

Hi guys,

I have an Onkyo 805 which I bought it march 2008.So far it was working good and still it is working fine except for the front display panel. The display panel in the front is not lighting up brightly all of a sudden.I tried with various dimmer settings but did'nt work, it defaults to the same setting which is very dim so that I can barely see the texts from my viewing distance.I haven't update the DSP and the FW.Does this causes the issue? I live in NJ and I have onkyo authorized local service centers to which I am planning to take my receiver in. I think Onkyo has a 2 year warranty which should cover my repair right? Also is it possible to ask the service technician to update my firmware and DSP? Did anybody face the same problem? Please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

If its completely dark and not visible,there is a thread on here somewhere,where they fixed it themself.It involved removing the cover and soldering a new part,i can't remember what it was though.If you have a warranty i would definitely take it in,and they should be able to update your firmware also.

Yeah, i remember seeing that post. If the unit is under warrenty, don't go trying anything you read on this forum. Take the unit in for service; that was built into the cost of the unit so don't take any chances. even if it is not under warrenty, i would recommend taking it in and pay the service charge if it's under 75 and see what's wrong and what it might cost to fix it. save the tinker with it yourself action for after you've at least had it professionally checked out. imo.

@solardad and purplejesus,

Thanks a lot for the replies.its not completely dark but as I have mentioned I can barely read the texts....I think its just starting ..so yes I read about opening the unit and changing the resistors.lol I dont have the guts to do it. I will take it to the service center..just to make sure onkyo 805 comes with a 2 year warranty right? I bought this march 2008, so the warranty should cover it?

hopefully (in case they demand it) you have a sales reciept and perhaps you registered it online. i know how that sounds but had to have work done on a piece of equipment i owned and i registered it the day i got it, lost the reciept and they accepted the proof of registration in my name and fixed it under the warrenty.

the other thing i do is when i buy something, i keep the sales invoice or receipt stapled inside the manual and keep all that literature in a big ziplock bag with the date of purchase on it.

i have that right now with everything i own and yes i register everything for HT that i buy.

best of luck, keep us posted.
