building an audio server computer vs streaming with a PS3 - Blu-ray Forum

Well I currrently stream all my music via my ps3 from my computer, I enjoy the interface its easy to use etc. the sound quality is pretty good ( all my files are in wav.) but I do notice that sticking in a cd still sounds a bit better.
Would I gain any sound quality by building a dedicated audio server computer? id probably run a small boot drive and a large storage drive for all the files. I would use an SDIF or digital connection so im thinking I wouldnt need a sound card in it.
could i get better sound quality this way or is it a waste of time.

I dunno if you will get better sound quality but in another forum alot of people that listen to alot of music, rips there cds to their computer and uses a squeezebox with an external dac connected and have sad this is about as close as the have come to cd quality.

it looks pretty sweet but I dont think id sink 2 grand into it.

How are you connecting the PS3 to your receiver? Analog or digital?

Digital... Hdmi and I also have the optical sdif connected to an Alesis DEQ 230 D Eq.. I use it to clean up and tweak a few MP3 recordings I have. dont use that connection much anymore mostly just HDMI
