Can a Japanese PS3 play US BDs? - Blu-ray Forum

I have a US PS3 for games and movies in our home theater room. But my wife would like to play the Japanese karaoke games. So I figure I'll have to get her a Japanese PS3 if she wants to play Japanese games.

The question I have is, will we be able to watch all the BDs we own (all are US blu-rays) on the Japanese PS3?

I live in the UK and have a Hong Kong import, and all the PS3 games and Blu-ray movies I have bought have worked so far ( U.S and UK titles). I think PS3 games are mostly region free, but there are a few Blu-ray tiltles ( mainly from Fox I believe) are region coded.

US, Japan and South East Asia are all Region A on BD. DVD is a different thing so try not to get 'em DVDs.

Just FYI, they are nothing like the excellent US games. They use really cruddy MIDI backing tracks, and are slapped together. I would probably own 5-6 of them if it weren't for that, and the fact that you have to buy the specific Japanese microphone for it to work.

Blu-Ray and PS3 games from Japan will work. DVD and PS1/2 games will not

If it is a PS2 game then the answer is no (it follows PS2 RC)
If it is a PS3 game the answer is yes (there is no PS3 games RC)
If it is a DVD movie then no (follows DVDs RC and Japan and US are different RCs)
if it is a BD movie then yes (BD has RC but Japan and the US are region A)
