Panasonic completes new plasma panel plant in Amagasaki
Wednesday 23rd December, 07:33 AM JST

OSAKA —
Panasonic Corp held a ceremony in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, on Tuesday to mark the completion of a new plasma display panel plant. Capable of producing the world’s largest PDPs at 330 centimeters by 190 cm, the third Amagasaki plant is designed to shore up Panasonic’s plasma display business, which is lagging behind its liquid crystal display panel output.

The new plant began trial production in November, a half year behind schedule due to slack demand amid the recession. The factory will begin commercial production in January 2010 with an initial monthly rate equivalent to 120,000 units of 42-inch panels. Panasonic’s monthly production of PDPs at the three plants in Amagasaki will expand to 1.06 million units.
This should help out with the shortage of V10 models currently being seen in both USA and Canada.

Did someone say plasma was doomed?
