Default HELP!! Those with PS3 come here... frame rate issue

do any of your PS3's kinda skip during a blu ray movie. like the frame rate isnt smooth, it usually happens 2 or 3 times in the movie, then stops after 10 sec and goes back to normal

someone told me that there may be a way to fix it by turning something off in the settings??

Have you updated the System Software to the latest version? (1.90)

Some people had this problem with earlier versions of the software, some didn't.

I think it was turning off the wireless networking. But, that problem was solved a long time ago I thought.

Never had a skip with any firmware.

If the update doesn't fix it, return the machine.

Update the firmware. I'm almost positive that will solve the issue. I had troubles for about 2 weeks back in February, but was well aware of it being due to the THEN latest firware update. It didn't take them long to rectify it. If you already have firware update 1.9 and it still shows the same problem, then further investigation is required.

Do you have the system connected to the internet?

1.9 seems to have fixed it for me.

Maybe you're running it too hot. Is it getting adequate ventilation, the vents at least 4 inches from any surface?

I am just saying because skips like that happened to my xbox 360 when i placed it inside my entertainment cabinet. Its on the floor now with a 7 inch fan blowing on it and it never skips.

1. Update the firmware and /or
2. Turn of the networking when watching a movie.

I used to use 2 before they updated and fixed the problem.

I thought you were supposed to put electrical tape over the vents so dust doesn't get inside the unit?

If you update with the latest System Software you shouldn't even have to do this. Your PS3 needs to be connected to your internet connection to update.

No skipping here, other than when it is explainable...

Just when is it skipping? Is is skipping on horizontal pan shots? If so, that is an error caused by telecine. The 24fps shot jitters when converted to 30fps. This is why the ability to display at 24fps on 24fps compatible TVs is such a good thing

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and I have the same problem, but it happens every 20 minutes or so. I found this site by searching this problem. Glad Ifound you guys.

Anyways, I do have the ver 1.90. I never had this problem until I got the V1.9I'll try to turn some network stuff off to see it it's working.

That should not happen with 1.90. The network hiccup problem happened whenever the PS3 system tried to access the internet. I believe the FW fix was to disable the handshaking of the devices automatically. The fix is in now so you shouldn't have to do that but it is worth a try.

Do you have any games? Have you seen the same sort of problem there? Mine do occasionally pointing to a lack of memory problem. Let us know what happens. Also how are you connecting to the HDTV??? Have you tried another way of connecting?
Sometimes HDCP handshake issues appear with HDMI cables. My cable box went poof until they updated the software.

I don't have problems playing games at all. Only when playing Blu Ray, and it's only happened after the v1.9 update. I have the same HDMI hook up as before. Very odd
