That should not happen with 1.90. The network hiccup problem happened whenever the PS3 system tried to access the internet. I believe the FW fix was to disable the handshaking of the devices automatically. The fix is in now so you shouldn't have to do that but it is worth a try.

Do you have any games? Have you seen the same sort of problem there? Mine do occasionally pointing to a lack of memory problem. Let us know what happens. Also how are you connecting to the HDTV??? Have you tried another way of connecting?
Sometimes HDCP handshake issues appear with HDMI cables. My cable box went poof until they updated the software.

I don't have problems playing games at all. Only when playing Blu Ray, and it's only happened after the v1.9 update. I have the same HDMI hook up as before. Very odd

If you've disabled the Network, try these things to see if you can pinpoint the problem:

Try a lower resolution. Uncheck the higher resolution(s) on the PS3.

Instead of using HDMI try using component cables if you have them lying around.

Regardless, I would definitely give Sony support a call and open an issue. You will have a lot of troubleshooting info to hand them when you do. My guess is they will try a full reinitialize of the system. It's a great way to get customers off the lines.

my ps3, the screen goes blank for about a second about once every two hours, its a tad annoying, this has been going on since 1.9, it happens in both games and movies, anybody know what is causing this? is this similar to your problem?

I have the same problem. I can't figure out what causes it.

I don't know if anyone asked this yet, but does it do it in the same spots on the disc? Like if you rewind and go back are the frames still missing?

Mine doesn't have that exact problem. When I see it, I blame my tv because I watch blu-rays on both my tube SDTV and my LCD HDTV, and it only happens on the LCD.
