Default Will You Buy Into The New 3D Technology?

3D Blue-ray & TV is to new & expensive for most people.I'd say 30% of the people I know don't even have a LCD or plasma TV's in there house and if they do have one the rest of the house is filled with old tube sets .80% to 90% don't have Blu-ray in there home.So I see the new 3D technology as a FAD or another round of technology before it's time for the masses. WHAT'S YOUR OPINION............

i'm holding onto the hope that 3d is an option and not made to be the norm. i hate the idea of having to wear glasses when watching tv or movies.

On the merits of 3-D for home video, I don't see it catching on very fast. I think when you move a 3-D picture from a 50 ft. screen to a 50 in. screen it looses a lot of its luster and appeal. However, for theater viewing, or perhaps for the next generation of game consoles, I see more potential for 3-D.

Nope. 2D is just fine. Just another way to make people buy stuff. Nothing special. Besides, there have been numerous reports by doctors regarding the detriments of 3D to your vision; forcing/straining the eye to focus on two things at once, etc. That aside, its not something I'd want to see for every movie; and not every movie should incorporate it. A 3D version of Up In The Air for example... NO. It only works with certain sci-fi, animation, and action/adventure. People need money these days. Consumers have just gotten settled in with HD and Blu-ray. Now we have to re-buy every component we have just to accommodate 3D?! That seems a little extreme for a bell or a whistle. An investment like that would make more sense if it was for a completely different experience all around; like 2160p perhaps - which happens to be where things are headed eventually anyway. HDMI 1.4 is all geared up for it. Reports confirm that Blu-ray discs will be directly compatible with 2160p, as the new hardware overhaul will up-convert/decompress the content on the disc. Now THAT is worth a new HT in my opinion. Not blowing thousands to watch a movie in 3D. Also, there are multiple versions of "3D." IMAX 3D, for example, does not use sophisticated technology at all in the eyewear nor the screen itself; the image is simply blown up to fit the large screen and is the blurriest of all. Then there's REAL D - which uses more advanced technology all around to create a better and clearer 3D experience. There are a couple others as well and then there are some that are completely meaningless all together like "Disney 3D" - just a buzz word. Finally, the first 3D components and TVs are not going to be the last. There will be endless revisions for better clarity and so fourth, prompting consumers to reinvest in the same technology until the real technological breakthroughs happen years from now with 2160p and OLED. I'd wait. 3D is not even remotely close in convincing me to part ways with my Kuro 151; not by a long shot.

I personally will not buy in but as I do my normal upgrades if what I choose happens to have it I will then end up with a full 3D system.
But when you just look at the full cost it will not be very cheap really. Player, receiver that can pass the signal along, TV ,and enough glasses to use for everyone you would view with. As long as they donot make the 3D premium too high I am sure I will end up with it. And the real premium will be the glasses.

I'm not in a hurry. Guess i'll get 3D gear, when my next round of updates is due in about two years. I recently upgraded my BD player and my projector, so i'll probably watch the first two generations of 3D pass me by.

For me it mostly depends on what kind of films will be released on 3D Blu. If there is a large selection of movies i definitely want to see in 3D (at home), i'll jump in.

No interest in 3D in my home. If 3D discs play fine in 2D in the same quality, I may pick them up just in case, in order to future-proof, basically. But I won't be buying a 3D-capable set for years.

Early reports have been that 3D HDTVs are able to provide a brighter more dynamic 3D image than currently available theatrically.

Well, I don't doubt that the technology will produce a very nice image. It's just that part of the appeal of 3-D (that it further draws you into the picture) is aided by the image filling a lot of one's field of vision. It's harder to reproduce that for home video unless you have a lot of cash for a great big screen (or sit very close to a smaller screen.)

I don't see any reason to justify spending the prices they will charge when
the hardware is released for two reasons..

1. Very very limited titles on blu ray will be available right away
2. No t.v. is broadcasted in 3-D..

Now if they announced all NFL games next year would be broadcast in 3D, that would be a game changer, but until then it's not worth the $$$

3D just makes me angry. I think it is the most ridiculous gimmick they are trying to push on consumers. I feel this will go the way of BetaMax.

Even if I did enjoy it, I think having to wear glasses to watch movies is quite silly. I've been trying since second grade to get my glasses off my head, now they expect me to wear them for TV. Sorry... Not interested.
