Default Definitive Technology bi-polar speakers, Good Buy or not?

I was at best buy lookin at tv's and i asked the magnolia guy to show me some audio stuff and he showed me this definitive technology 3 way floorstanding speakers with built in sub. Model number BP7006BLA. I have a onkyo reciever and i need a new one but i thought maybe these speakers would be a good step to upgrading my audio system? Any info? Thanks

Yes! I am also biased, but these are some phenomenal speakers and a tremendous value. You won't be disappointed... what receiver would you likely pair with them?

I just upgraded to a def tech non-bipolar setup to a deftech bipolar setup and it is great for home theater. It's like when you close your eyes you can't tell where the speakers are in the room.

I agree. The sound is open, warm and full, from every listening spot in your room. The best advice though is to listen yourself and compare; I'm confident you'll join the ranks of happy Definitive Technology buyers.

I should say that I'm somewhat neutral (I have Def Tech's in my rear channels but Klipsch in my front and I have many other speakers that I admire for different reasons). With that said - You should go an listen to these speakers with material that you are familiar with. If they are pleasing to your ears - go for it. Def Tech is a great company that puts out quality products, but don't take it from me - (there are a lot of great companies putting out quality products - I'm going to demo some Quads at a new High End store in my little neighborhood ) see for yourself and then decide!

So glad that you bring this question up. i am in love with def tech, have a 2 pair of the bipolars myself, and have convinced a few other friends to get similar setups. I cant beleive there isnt more talk on this forum about these wonderful speakers.

I have the Bipolar Def Tech Super Towers with 15" built-in subwoofers from a few years ago. I bought them from a high-end dealer in Palm Springs, CA. I had the opportunity to buy many other brands of speakers at that time. However, I thought the Def Tech speakers were the best for the price. I have to admit that they were not very cheap.

Awesome. Thanks for all the info. I got to hear the speakers in action at the store. He was playing transformers and i am legend for me, and they sounded amazing. Well the reciver i have now is just a onkyo 550 but i have to ugrade, what reciver would do these speakers justice, and that is still Cheap? Also should i get a new reiciver first and wait to get the speakers or will these speakers work ok with my reciever?

Well, if your 550 can accept HDMI audio and PCM, then I'd go speakers first. If it doesn't, get a new receiver and a couple speakers to start and then go from there... what would your budget for a receiver be?

I know my reciver only does hdmi video pass through, and i already got speakers it was a HTIB. So i got speakers just a crappy reciever. My price range would be $500 or so. Why would i need hdmi to have those speakers?

You would need HDMI (or 5.1/7.1 analog inputs-depends on BD player) to get LPCM, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS Master Audio. What blu-ray player are you using???

Sweet. If i do get the new speakers should i move my current onkyo front speakers to take the place of my current back speakers? Is small better for surround ones or bigger always better?

Generally speaking bigger is most of the time better, but not so much with rears... move your Onkyo speakers around where you need, and save money for a center channel to match those new bipolar towers. The front three speakers should have the same size woofer/tweeter and be "voice matched".
Stick with a Definitive center channel to do this. The rears aren't as important to be matched.
