My Dad wants to buy some speakers for his media room

He would like to by 6 800 promoniter speakers from def tech
The 1000 center and the 800 sub.

or instead in the front the 7006 super towers which setup do you think is best from them for under 2000 $

By the way if he gets the super towers he wont get a subwoofer

I have 1000s for my front three channels and 800s for my other 4 surround speakers and I love the setup. If I could afford towers from def tech I would be going with their mythos ST series. I am told you need a couple of feet around each speaker with the BPs. My sub is the Pro Sub 1000 again if I had the money I would be going with a super cube. I assume your father has heard the Def techs and likes them enough to buy them. Make sure he tries out several brands before he settles. I found the def techs to be the best for my budget but thats my personal taste.

Definitive is a highly under-rated manufacturer. I think their subs are up there with the very best in the industry... At least their supercube series. I have owned 2 definitive subs and love them both. I sold the powerfield model and kept the supercube reference. The supercube reference is so powerful, it's scary!

I haven't auditioned the Super towers though. I know that previous models used a 3000 watt powered 18" sub, side-firing, i think. If you're dad scores a pair of supertowers, he's in for a real treat!

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I figured since there's already a dedicated Def Tech thread...

My new pair of RS9080s are arriving on Wednesday. I plan to use them as my front wides, each mounted on either side wall. I have another RS9080 pair serving as my side surrounds, and a BP-8080RS pair serving as my back surrounds. As I can't find anyone who still has new BP9000 towers and CS9000 centers in stock and is willing to ship to PR, I was contemplating ordering a pair of DM80s and a DM30 (there's no issue shipping the latter two to PR). I was wondering, is it too much to hope that the DM80s and DM30 would be timbre matched to my BP-8080RS/RS9080 surrounds?

That's an interesting question, but I am pretty sure that they will sound fine together.
I had the SM45/SM55 for surrounds at one point, and the SM65 for L/R and CS8080 for years. Then, I had to replace the 8080 and I got the CS9080. Didn't notice any issues. The tweeter domes are the same from that previous generation to the newer one, so that might be what helps keep them consistent even if switched and mixed. From what I recall, I found a mention somewhere (this was like, 8 years ago) that the 8000 series timbre match with the 9000 series.
I have since switched my floor surrounds to Klipsch bookshelf speakers... since so little audio actually comes out the surrounds versus the L/R/Center speakers, I assume timbre matching is less of an issue for most listeners for surround speakers. YMMV.

Perhaps try contacting the "Contact Us" page on their website?
Also, the AVS forums might have a section pertaining to your questions.

Thanks, KcMsterpce. Before posting here, I had contacted Def Tech but only got a canned response with preselected "answers" that didn't even address my concern. As for AVS, I had posted there first but got no response. That's when I remembered there was a good audio community here (I really miss reading posts from Big Daddy). So thank you for taking the time to respond.
