Default Definitive Technology ProCinema 60?

Hi Guys,

Need your help big time. I've decided on my receiver(Onkyo HT-RC160, as soon as the price drops again to arnd 350), and am looking for a 5.1 speaker setup. I've heard the ProCinema 600 at a best buy, and was thoroughly impressed. Unfortunately, my budget doesn't stretch to $800(no discounts anywhere )

I came across the ProCinema 60.6 online, which was a promotional precursor to the 600. But researching for almost 2 weeks, I've found very little about them. The main differences I could see were :-
1. ProCinema 60.6 satellites don't have the "Bass radiator" as found on 600. Hence, the specs for 600 frequency response go a bit lower.
2. The Amp on the Sub is 150W on 60 v/s 250W on 600.
3. The big one. Price: 60 goes for $500, whereas 600 goes for $800.

Since there's just 1 review(4 yr old), and very few users who've posted anything about it, coupled with the fact that its not available in any stores around here, I wanted some opinion from the experts here.
Has anyone heard the ProCinema60? I really liked the sound of the Def Tech, otherwise, I may have to stick with the universally acclaimed Energy Take Classic(only gripe about them is the sats only go to 120Hz, and the center has 1 mid-range driver v/s 2 in DT).

Thanks a lot for looking

Cheers,
AK

I have seen this thread before and was hoping to hear other people's thoughts about the same set.

I have wondered the same as you. I wanted to put something like this in my bedroom and I have read great reviews on the 600, 800 and 1000 but not much on the 60. I really wanted the 800 myself.

Have you heard the Quintet III's? They are on sale from Vanns for $249 except they do not come with a sub. I had this set and loved them, I then turned them into my surrounds to make a 7.1

I kinda wanted them again for the bedroom, but also wanted a totally different setup from the main viewing room and the bedroom just to have diversity.

Hamp,

I had the Procinema 1000 in my basement prior to my set-up . It had plenty of umph and has solid sound for HT. If you're considering a Procinema system for the bedroom, the 800 will more than satisfy you.

I don't mind getting a 5.0 and separate sub. Thats what I was planning to do with the Energy Take as well. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to see if any stores around here carry them. I know the Quintet III get good reviews. I tried the HD Theater series, and wasn't impressed at all. In fact with music they were really bad. I thought their bookshelf speakers were much better, but unfortunately I'm not allowed those

The 800 was/is something I am considering in the future for my bedroom setup.

Or

I might have to get the quintet's again, the $249 is a really good price.

This is good to know, I wanted to hear a personal review about the HD Theater series. If I had to guess I was thinking it would have been better then the Quintet's --- Guess not!!!

You and another person on the site said they can't have bookshelf speakers.

Yeah, I tried them at a Ken Crane's here in SoCal. They did sound impressive for the movies, but as soon as I put in a CD, ouch.

Thanks for the tip on the Quintets. I see that Vann's has a sale on them right now. Also, on the SL. They have bigger LCR channels.

How bout the sub? I see that you have two Sub 12. I donno if I'll have enough left for it, how is the sub 10?
Guess I should find out a store nearby which has them

As for the bookshelf, I tried convincing my wife. She agreed, but wanted B&Ws, $900 a pair, which I can't afford

Well i have the pro cinema 60,( I am not a professional thou) i gave it to my parents when i upgraded to the 7600's by DefTech. I love the pro cinema 60, the bass unit delivers deep full all around bass. The satellites deliver crystal clear sound. The system works well for both movies and music in my opinion. They are the only speaker set i found that i could not pick out some sort of "missing frequency range" (I have very sensitive hearing) If you buy them you will NOT be disappointed.

Hope this helps you, i don't really know what else to say about them.

I had two Sub 12's and I LOVED THEM. My apt was broken into a couple of weeks ago and they stole it all. I am without anything blu(except my movies). Here is the link I made in the Home Theater Gall talking about it all.

As for the sub-10, that little puppy can bang also. I was impressed at a bestbuy and they used a sub-10 to demo.

Thanks a lot. It certainly does. The problem is that most of the reviews are 4-5 yrs old.
I was just wondering how well the sub performed, since the amp power is 150W, 100W down from the 250W offered by the 600s.
I so much wish I could audition these with the Klipsch recommended by HAMP.

Talking

So,
I was at my local CVS for some stuff, which was next door to a Best Buy. As expected, I dropped in for a peek,, and was about to leave when a sales rep asked me if I needed any help.
I asked her if they had the Quintets. She showed me the Quintet III for $399 + tax. I asked her if she had the Quintet SL.
She went back and checked, only 1 left, for $240+tax!!!!
Wow, guess today was my lucky day. I pinched myself, and bought the system

Now headed over to monoprice for cables and plugs, and to the Subwoofer forum for a sub reco.

Thanks a lot to HAMP, acid, and rded

Cheers

Yes indeed sir..
My.. The subwoofer forum is quite overwhelming with the stickies. It'll take me a while to go through them, before asking a question, so that I don't come off as a complete noob

Don't worry... just ask. There's a whole section devoted to the Def Tech subs in the subwoofer forum.

By the way, welcome to the Def Tech family! I love my BP's every time I turn them on.

Oops.. I guess the thread title needs to be revised(not sure if I could do that)

I was looking at the DTs, but then came across an irresistible deal on the Klipsch Quintet SL at my local Best Buy(never thought I could get something there). So unfortunately, I have switched sides for the time being Hopefully, my wallet would someday enable me to own some piece of DT magic some day.

Still looking for a sub though, so might check out the Definitive ones too.
