are update for a player covered under warrenty as " service" and even after the warrenty period can u get it without cost. a CD from the manufacturer to update a bluray player's software?

I think that will all depend on the make and model of your BD player, as not all manufacturers will have the same policies. Im not even sure if a firmware upgrade has anything to do with the warranty of the product. You would be better of calling them and asking them directly, whoever they are.

I remember reading a post once that someone stated Samsung declined warranty service after the player was bricked from a firmware update because Samsung hadn't told them to do so. If you're concerned then I'd contact the manufacturer customer support via email so the response is documented. In my experiences you'll get a different response depending on who you talk to whenever talking to any customer support. It can't be denied if it's written down.
