32" EX400: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...:dg_tv_gglsrch
32" EX500: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...:dg_tv_gglsrch Ok, a month ago (Edit I looked at receipt 48 days ago!!! Time went fast... Am I screwed?) I went out to Best Buy searching for a Sony Bravia 32" TV. I spoke to one of the employees and asked about it, and he showed me the EX400. He said that's the newest and best quality tv they had in the store and in my price range for what I was looking for. I was pretty much on set for looking for a Sony television. My price range went up to about $720. I randomly did some research on the tv I bought just now, and realized there was a tv out at the same exact time as mine, that I think might be better. I am not the best with knowing the specifics of quality. I was at the store for awhile, and he never showed me the EX 500. Comparing to the EX 400, is the EX 500 any better for watching movies on Blu-Ray's (like especially with picture quality)? Are they the same in picture quality? What makes them different? Is it a better television? Oh and in the past week I see the prices went down on both tv's...... I see the 32" EX 400 is 60 HZ and the 32" EX500 120 HZ. I called Sony and asked, but she didn't seem to sure of herself. She said it only matters with football, and the 60 HZ and 120 HZ is the same exact picture quality when watching Blu-Rays as long as you use an HDMI Wire. If the other one is actually better, is it worth going to Best Buy to try package everything up, and try to exchange it for the EX 500. I would tell them the truth, their employee (Who I actually always see their, and can point him out ![]() He just told me this is the newest one they got in and the best one they had in my price range (which is untrue now, maybe because he didn't know about it?), and I just saw they had this in as well. If this is in fact a better tv (for my main use for watching Blu-ray's) for watching Blu-Rays I would much rather have this. ![]() The_Basterd Last edited by The_Basterd; 04-23-2010 at 03:37 AM. |

I would definitely exchange the 60Hz for the 120Hz. It's a huge difference because it's like twice the processor. You'll notice the difference not just in sports, but in movies and gaming too. You have every right to return the TV within 30 days, so do it ASAP.

Just take it back (witin 30 days of purchase of course). Make sure you take the receipt with you and just tell them that you want the EX500. They should be able to exchange it with no prob. If you don't have the box, don't worry. They don't require it for a return/exchange (since they'll sell it as open box).

I just looked at my receipt, it's been over 30 days. 48 to be exact, according to the receipt. Wow time flew by....... I swear it felt at least 30 days haha. So am I screwed? Or is it worth a try?
Also, the EX500 came out in in 2010, correct? The same exact date as the EX500. I think I found that, but Amazon lists it coming out in 2005. ![]() And also the EX400 is not better in any way, correct? It's either the same or superior? For some reason the reviews for the EX500 are a tad less than the EX400. It says the EX500 sound quality is pretty low. Is it the same as the EX400? Ok for the reviews for the EX400 it has a perfect sound quality rating from customers while the EX500 has much lower for some reason.... Does it have the same sound? My EX400 is fine for sound.... Do you still think they will let me exchange and pay the difference of the TV's? Or will I have some trouble since I am over the 30 day return policy? Last edited by The_Basterd; 04-23-2010 at 04:26 AM. |

Returning the TV is not going to happen. I myself had similar problem as yours shortly after 30 days due to a faulty panel on my 32" Sony LCD TV. Best Buy wouldnt take it back even at 34 days after! In your case its more than 34 days and its not Best Buy fault they did not show you the other TV. Perhaps at that time they did not have the TV on display or its in stock to begin with. You shouldve done some research on Sony TVs before heading the Best Buy. Would you go out and buy a new/used car without doing some online research? I dont know anyone who wouldnt. Good luck though!

I tried to return something at day 31. They refused it. It clearly states in their policy 30 days. I couldn't argue with the guy. You may have to sell it on CL. Going from 60hz to 120hz is a tremendous difference. I recently made the switch. The picture seems to pop off the screen. The detail is amazing. I purchased the 46ex501 with no regrets. If you decide to try exchanging it keep us posted on the result.

If its been more then 30 days your screwed buddy because BB wont take it back. As for the 60hz vs 120hz deal? I was one of those in the beginning that said "120hz is overrated". Well I bought my current Sony which is 120hz and found out how wrong I was. No judder, smooth motion....it all made a huge difference. So in the end I think its best to 120hz. You will notice the difference.

It's a TV I'll primarily use for BD, but also some FiOS HD. I have no interest in the 60Hz or 120 Hz feature. In fact, one of the first things I did was turn it off. It does nothing for detail, it just makes motion seem smoother to give the image a more video-like and less film-like appearance. Doug |

What you're thinking of that gives a more video-like appearance is the Motionflow gimmick that Sony has...and I would never use that. |
