I agree with the other posting that stated that this is a great business decision by Paramount...heck, do less than you planned to do and pocket $150mil? That's a lot more than they would probably earn with BD discs in the next few months anyway. Let's face it...it's still a VERY small % of their sales.
But, here's the way to let our voices be heard: DO NOT buy ANY movie from them, SD OR HD-DVD. I know you want (insert title here), but hold off and don't let your short-term desires create a long-term problem for you and everyone else. If you must, rent it from Netflix, but DON'T BUY IT. I LOVE my blu-ray player, but even on a 60" SXRD, an upconverted SD DVD looks pretty darn good, and will certainly tide me over until Paramount gets their wits about them. I'm a big fan of the Shrek titles, but will boycott even the SD release (and will NOT buy an HD-DVD player) as I truly feel that this time next year this will all be a moot point. This will send a clear message to the studio (and other studios that are fence-sitting) when their A-list titles do not sell as well as they had hoped. The execs will really be squirming when they see Transformers and Shrek languishing in sales $$ below more marginal BD releases, simply due to the installed base of players. They'll also have a lot of "splainin' to do" when they see their competitors' A-list BD titles BLOW AWAY their sales figures on HD-DVD. Are you with me? ![]() |

Here's the official Hollywood announcement today. Note how there's no mention of the money Paramount (I'm told $50 million) and DreamWorks Animation (I'm told $100 million) is receiving for "promotional consideration" from the HD DVD side to continue with what is widely recognized as the losing high-def format. Also note that Steven Spielberg is still fence-sitting (although this fall Sony will release in Blu-ray its catalogue title Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, the first of Spielberg's pictures to do so in either format). Sources are telling me these moves are "really out of desperation" by HD DVD and "a cash grab" by the studios. Hollywood was lopsided in favor of Blu-ray: until now, 7 of the 8 major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) supported Blu-ray, and 5 of them (Disney, Fox, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) release their movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format. Only Universal was exclusively HD-DVD

Paramount's loss is Anchor Bay/Starz, Buena Vista/Disney/Touchstone, Fox/ MGM, Sony/Columbia/Tri-Star, Lionsgate, Magnolia, Miramax, and Koch Entertainment's gain.

I agree with you.
Paramount going from neutral to exclusive on the slumping side just makes no financial sense to me at all, even if they were paid handsomely for the move. it's gonna bite them in the ass in the long run, IMO. ![]() |

I refuse to let the battle dictate anymore what I watch in HD, its like the tail wagging the dog. Im going to own as much as I can on HD, not boycotting anyone.

I sent an e-mail to the following addresses: brad_grey@paramount.com, Thomas_Lesinski@paramount.com, kelley_avery@paramount.com, mark_baddagliacca@paramount.com, andrew_cripps@paramount.com, frederick_huntsberry@paramount.com, john lesher@paramount.com, rob_moore@paramount.com, hal_richardson@paramount.com, brad_weston@paramount.com, stacy_snider@paramount.com
They are all higher-ups @ paramount. The first name_last name@paramount.com seems to be the way paramount assigns e-mail address. I know it is a long shot that these will work. I can tell you though, that from working at wal-mart, I know that even lee scott's email follows the same formula as hourly employees e-mail. What do you guys guys think? Worth a shot? |

I'd like to send a message to Paramount that I want my money back over the Payback Director's Cut and want the ORIGINAL version on Blu-ray, please and thanks... :P
I don't suppose you got any replies to your emails, or found a way to get ahold of anybody? |
