Canada Vengeance Trilogy, from Alliance.

I have been keeping a close-eye on Park Chan Wook's Vengeance Trilogy Set for the longest time. I would have pulled the trigger if not for Palisades Tartan's enormous mess-up and their current unethical handling of the situation, or lack thereof.

In the set, the Oldboy disc is missing 7.1 TrueHD audio. In place is a lossy 5.1 track, and this is despite 7.1 listed as spec on the back cover. I was browsing through Amazon.ca today and stumbled upon the following...

http://www.amazon.ca/Vengeance-Trilo...1308142&sr=1-3

Listed as October 5, 2010 release. Scroll down and it has Alliance Films listed as the distributor. I don't know. I feel scared and excited at the same time. Here's hoping the Oldboy audio problem is fixed, and that everything else is on par with Palisades Tartan.

For those who have already purchased the P-Tartan set from Amazon.ca, how's the Oldboy audio? Can someone verify whether 7.1 has been put back or is the problem still unfixed? Thanks.

My guess is that it will be a direct port of the US set...

Default it's finally here...

Anyone got this? It's now available from amazon.ca and I would love to find out if the audio for Oldboy has been corrected. Also, whether the whole set is on par with the U.S. release. Thanks in advance.

Someone posted an update in the main thread. I hate to deliver bad news but apparently it's limited to region 1, which is essentially Alliance talk for region A.

Oldboy is only a single disc in the alliance package, but is the same Disc one from the original 2-disc Tartan release. It does have the 7.1 dtsma track

Really enjoyed this blu-ray set of the vengeance trilogy. While the OOP Palisades Tartan set is prettier as a blu-ray set, this one is more practical especially as it has the corrected lossless audio for Oldboy.

I think it's probably the best version of these movies on blu-ray.

Update: so Arrow video has now released their own version of the Vengeance trilogy, with new bonus features and a 4K remaster of Oldboy. Anybody here have it?

It's been out for a while. I have it. There was initially a LE box set designed to look like the infamous elevator from Oldboy that sold out. It was followed by a standard box set reissue. I've only see Oldboy from the set so far, and it looks fantastic.

How many of these extras are both new and exclusive to the Arrow set?

Also, if you’re a Park Chan-wook fan (like me) then I don’t see a reason not to get the whole trilogy if you can play it.

Like I said im just not a huge fan of Lady Vengeance so that's why I didn't get the trilogy. I have Arrow's Oldboy & Tartan's Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Im good with those. I don't know what features the Canadian trilogy has so I cant compare.

Are Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance & Lady Vengeance any better in this Arrow trilogy set than the Palisades Tartan releases? I'm thinking of getting this set for the upgrade of those, if there is an upgrade. I also noticed the full colour version of Lady Vengeance is included, so that's one thing it has over the Palisades Tartan release, which only included the Fade to Black & White version.

The Arrow version of Lady Vengeance has better video than Tartan/Alliance. Capelight and GaragePlay has a 4K restoration of Mr. Vengeance, but the colors look garish.
The Arrow version also has exclusive extras.

Great, thanks a lot for the info, I didn't know about the 4K version of Mr. Vengeance. I wonder if Arrow will do 4K releases of those films at some point. I'd love a 4K version of this set.

What about the 4K Germany version of Lady Vengeance? It lists that it has English sub on the back cover.

Just got a copy of the Arrow set. The Mr. Vengeance and bonus disc of Oldboy won't even load in my region free player. Other two load fine. Can't discern what the problem is.

I've had an issue with a different Arrow blu-ray where the DVD region also had to match (region 2) or else the disc wouldn't play. So, it could be that.
