Default Rental Strategy

People we need to start RENTING more BD's!!

Go to Blockbuster and RENT........Sign up at Netflix and RENT

Call your local Hollywood video, write, email and bug the crap out of them. Tell them they need to rent Blu-Ray!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's low cost and we will be heard!!!!!!!!!

What do you guys think?

Renting really wont help unless the demand gets big enough places have to order alot more blu ray movies to rent out(which will happen years down the road). Buying them is where its at but I guess if you cant afford to buy or like to check it out before u buy them go ahead and rent but I really doubt if that will help the war out........

I just think by Blockbuster going BD exclusive we should show our metal.

Netflix is claiming its a even fight to this point!!

It will help, I think

Every 3rd to 4th of my rentals from netflix are BD and we go through about 15 movies a month. I have even been renting some blu which I own on DVD just to show them that we support the format

You can also try out the movie before purchasing it. It makes sense.

I've started renting all the time now.

I personally think the "average" consumer needs to purchase the players and movies for it to make a dent. We are the early adopters...

It certainly won't hurt, but when you consider the number of people that regular visit this site, its not likely to make a difference. Even if all the regular's buy a title every day for the next 2 weeks, it still probably won't have a huge impact.

Blu-ray is growing and is going to continue to grow. That's really all that's needed. Just enjoy. Only thing that can affect it is if HD DVD starts to grow at a faster rate. Right now, I don't see that happening unless they can get players in B&M stores very soon for $199 or less.

Oh, definitely! This kept me from buying Fifth Element (1st Ed) and Full Metal Jacket, which both looked awful... Now I just got Fifth Element (remastered) in the mail from Amazon and pre-ordered Full Metal along with the other Kubrick's for next month

I'm still waiting on my Blockbuster to start carrying Blu-ray. One in our area does, but it's a good 15-20 minute drive. The sooner the one 5 minutes away gets some, the better. There's a few titles that I know I'll only ever watch once that I'd like to rent.

Just go with netflix.

I really question how many people really make use of walking in to the blockbuster store. Here's how I see it.

You receive 3 movies in the mail. You watch the 3 movies over a series of days. Then return the 3 movies to the store, take home 3 more and in the next series of days, watch those 3, plus receive 3 new ones.

With netflix, you receive 3 movies. Watch 1 on Monday night. Drop it in the mail Tuesday. Watch another Tuesday night. Drop it in the mail on Wed. Watch another Wed night and drop it in the mail Thursday. Thursday (or sometimes wed) your new movie arrives and you are all set to watch.

And in the netflix case, how many people watch a movie every night? I have the 3 movie plan with netflix and I've never had an evening where we didn't have at least 1 movie to watch.

I usually rent fewer than one movie per month. So I don't think any on-line rental program would be worth it. I buy most movies I think I'll watch more than once. So for those films that I really want to see but don't want to watch over and over, I like the option of driving to the store and grabbing them.

How was the remastered version of the 5th element? I heard it was much better.

The Blockbuster by me had a HUGE section, it looks awesome for BD discs. Massive Blu-Ray logos and all. Its a nice sight to behold.

FYI--I just watched CRANK on BD, It is F'in AWESOME!! Picture and sound are pristine!!!

I rented it, now I may buy it!! That title is a WINNER!!!
