Default Sony BDP-S300

I just bought a Blu-Ray S300 and bought my first Blu-Ray to play on it - the Planet Earth disks that were originally published by the BBC. I read about regional codes and found a list online that said that they should play fine. Each time I put the disk in, it just sits there. I have played basic dvd's with no proble. I have purchase one other Blu-Ray disk now which started with no problem. Any thoughts or suggestions for the first time user that has no idea what he is doing???

Did you try all the PE discs? Sounds like a bad disc.

Default Has to be something other than the firmware

If it is a brand new player, it shouldn't need a firmware upgrade. Mine is months old and it had the latest firmware at that point.

Default PE disks

No, I have not tried all four disks yet. Also, I have heard about firmware but have not figured it out yet. Where do I go to find it...and...how the heck do you download (upload, install...) it into the player. Thanks for the response. I am pretty green with this stuff.

I edited my post to remove that suggestion. I checked Sony's site and they have no downloads for the S300.

Try the other discs, you probably got a bad one. Firmware updates are downloaded from Sony's site and burned onto a DVD, then the player loads the update when you put it in the player. Pretty simple.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am at work but will try that when I get home tonight. I also bought a 55 inch HD television so am anxious to see what it looks like. The other disk I got to work started right up. This disk does nothing- the counter all shows zeros, and it sits there. Pushing play also does nothing. Thanks for the info about the Firmware. I am also glad to know that this player that I bought last week is not already in need of updates. Okay---gotta get to work. Thanks again.

There are no firmware updates for the BDP-S300 yet. Make sure you register your player with Sony and you'll get email notifications from them. They'll also mail you a DVD for free if you don't have the ability to press your own.

So your player is Region A and you bought planet earth from a US source? Mine I bought from amazon are Region A and work like a champ.

Thanks. Yes, I bought both my Sony HDTV and the player at Nebraska Furnitrure Mart. The back of the player does say Region A, but I also found a site that indicated that this Planet Earth series does not need one. We really had no trouble setting it up, so I am not sure what the deal is. I did by the Planet Earth Set from Amazon, so hopefully if the one disk is defective I will not have a problem returning it. I will try the other three disks in the case when I get home today.

Smile bad disk

Thanks for the replies on the disk that would not work. I am at home and the other three do work. So...apparently a bad disk. I have emailed amazon and hopefully can get this taken care of.
