Talking kick to your junk...Even red laser-based HD VMD is better than HD DVD!

just checked up on this format after a while just to see new developments.... this format is not as supported as blu-ray or hd dvd content wise yet...but i thought it was funny. i think the BDA need to talk to this group. btw(they are at THIS YEARS IFA)

HD VMD - 40GB Multilayer Optical disc
New Medium Enterprises provides the world's first Low-Cost true High Definition medium solution utilizing today's Red Laser Technology and existing DVD industrial infrastructure.

The VMD platform is meant for 1920X1080i/p High Definition up to 40 Mbps bit rate playback using its 20 GB-40 GB Red Laser optical discs - the players & burners stand alone and computer embedded, inherently backward compatible with DVD and CD.

NME has developed Versatile Multilayer Disc (VMD), a technologically advanced optical disc that enables mobile storage to be realized at unprecedented price-to-performance levels; far beyond the realm of existing DVD technology. The Company is targeting the pre-recorded video segment of the entertainment industry by offering them VMD as a bespoke solution to thwart video piracy.

This is the only Low-Cost High-End offering to the discerning consumer at market prices in the range of prevailing DVD players, burners and discs.

IT IS PRETTY FUNNY when a RED optical based format is better than HD DVD

the kicker:

The first generation VMD line is capable of producing DVD-5 and DVD-9, 4-layer VMD discs with up to 24 GB capacity. This line is upgradeable to manufacture 2-layer and 4-layer VMD Blue Laser discs with up to 60 GB capacity. VDL ODMS is developing a multilayer optical disc production line for NME Inc.

VMD has been kicked around for a while. It's going nowhere. It's just pushing DVD technology out further.

yes but they are also going blue laser also..so but even their blue laser has more space than a HD DVD...and thats pretty good.

the way the HD DVD promotional group touted cheaper to produce..and can upgrade existing lines maybe they should have gone with this format instead HD DVD for their CONTENT support....

Why does that even matter when the difference in picture between HD DVD and BD is minimal.

I wouldn't say minimal. I bought a Hd-DVD player before my PS3, big mistake by the way, anyway, I watched the Matrix and it looked great, but compared to some of the top notch blu-ray discs, it did not compare. Now, some blu-ray's dont look that spectacular, but that has nothing to do with the capabilities of blu-ray.
