Default HD DVD now has a (red laser) recordable standard

From CDRinfo.com:

"The DVD Forum on Sep 12 approved the introduction of another extension of the HD DVD format, which allows HD DVD Format content to be stored on red-laser recordable Discs."

RED LASER??? Talk about forward thinking. Talk about a finished standard.
How many current hd-dud players will be able to read these discs?

Please let's NOT start seeing people here starting to jump off cliffs about this.

Am I reading this right?

Consumer authoring of HD DVD content onto DVDs. So HD-DVD9s? It doesn't really work yet but it's approved in the standard?

Something smells fishy about this though.... red laser is no where close to accurate enough to burn data on a HD disc.
Perhaps the HD-DUD people mean you can put HD-DVD format info on a DVD?

It's HD-DVD formating standard onto DVD, like basic navigation system. The DVD-R still has 4.2/9GB limitation though.

It's a non-issue since this was debated before HD-DVD launched and because BD also have the same clause in the spec. That was one of the reasons Warner joined the BDA.

Basically, old news.
