I expect if FOX is planning the big splash announcement(s), this would be part of that.

Unsure if this would be a big enough release they would even consider releasing it on BLU, although Matt went out of his way to mention they're mastering it in HD so I'm not quite sure what they're about here.

Considering FOX is releasing nothing right now, I don't even know who'd we'd contact to encourage to release all 4 of these DTVs on BLU anyways?

The (admittedly poorly written) story stated:

"The show will return on November 27th as a full-length high-def film sold on DVD."

Now... if it's going to be a "full-length high-def" film, wouldn't Blu-ray be necessary? Standard DVDs don't have the storage space for a full-length, high-def film.

But it was probably just poorly described. Still, there's a glimmer of hope there.

Doubtful. I think he just meant it was mastered in HD, but it's straight to DVD (probably widescreen), each DVD will be split into 4 seperate episodes to air on Comedy Network, making 16 seperate 30min episodes total. Clear enough.

I'd double dip for Futurama! A Blu release of it would be awesome.

Anyone want to point out to them that saying it is coming out on high-definition DVD is different than putting HD DVD in the title of the article?

The article did not say HD-DVD (which by all account does not actually stand for Hight Definition DVD - they said it actually stands for nothing at all prolly due to legal reasons).
So I am not sure. I am not totally upset if it is just DVD, but I would LOVE a BD version. I wonder if that Gizmodo link knows it's HD-DVD or if they are just speculating.
No official announcement for the format has been made so it is too early to panic or rejoice just yet.

Default Futurama on Blu-ray

Ok first off, we all know about futurama coming back to production with Four straight to dvds and then making them season 5 on comedy central. It is mentioned about it coming to a "high def" format, but not specified yet. You would assume it would be Blu because it being produced by Fox, but Comedy Central is owned by Viacom which is Paramount so HDDUD.

What do you think, not what would u want? because u will all say Blu because well this is Bluray.com so lol

I'd say Fox would have control before Comedy Central. Fox is making them, I think COmedy Central just airs them?

Either way, I hope we get an announcement soon. I would LOVE to get these on Blu.

According to the Press release (if you read it carefully) it's only being released on DVD.

no no, sielle is right. it was discussed here before. the way they worded it if you really break it down makes it seems like it was more meant 'high quality' and not an actualy hi def media release.

i hope we are wrong, but so far, it looks to be an only DVD release. hopefully we get an annoucement otherwise though, since the original was indeed before the big fox comeback from last week. maybe that they are now back in the game, news may change.
