Default Do you want to buy BD/DVD/Digital Copy Combo?

Recently, I am kinda disappointed by BD vendors' marketing trick: BD/DVD combo and raise the price tag...

When I decided to upgrade my DVD library to BD, I just want BD not DVD. Otherwise, I will buy an 1080p DVD up converting player/BD player (for using its 1080p DVD up conversion function only) instead.

I am just wondering, how many people here wants to pay extra to get the so-called "combo" version?!

I like combo packs because I can use the DVD when I travel and also lend out the DVD instead of the blu-ray whenever possible.

I don't mind if my Blu-ray comes with a Digital Copy or DVD or both. If I had to choose, I'd rather have a DVD so I can make my own digital copy.

I'm not sure I see the 'trick' here.

I have little interest in DVDs and even less in digital copies but I don't think I've ever been tricked into buying any. If a combo pack is the best deal I'll buy it. Otherwise I won't.

Angry I hate DVD's!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loathe combo packs, I want the blu ray NOT the DVD. But flippers are worse. I plan on selling all my DVD's from combo packs in one big auction so I can be rid of them. I now also have a computer with a blu ray drive, I wanted a laptop with a blu ray drive, I would not budge on that. F the DVD's! I will watch a DVD, but I will do so ONLY if it's not on blu ray, or if the blu ray is a piece of $hit, like the first Gladiator or Jim Carrey's Grinch. Sorry rant over.

I just prefer the complete package. You'll never know when you need it.

I honestly wish that they would. Except they should make that the only version available. People would throw such huge fits that the number of flipper releases would go waaaay down imo. Then maybe the aholes who love to cut corners would reduce the flipper releases, or stop them altogether.

I have no problem with studios including DVD's & Digital Copies, but I'm not interested in paying extra for them. If they're going to release an edition with all those add-ons and up the price because of it, then they ought to release a standalone Blu as well.

I would buy BD/DVD/DC combo if there's one available, otherwise just BD or with either. It would be great to watch on non-BD players around in my house or even to loan to friends who don't own BD players. I've no problems with vendors' marketing as long as I see it's only few dollars more, but if it's $10 more, then they can forget it.

I only buy the combo packs because those are usually the editions with the second Blu-ray full of special features. I don't use the DVDs or Digital copies so I don't mind, but only when it is one disk. I don't like having two extra disks like on Prince of Persia. I prefer the way Iron Man 2 does it, the third disk is both DVD and DC.

I find them utterly useless, and I think most people do as well.

The big exception is the Disney titles, which is pure genius to do the combo packs. People are buying them before they ever get a Blu-ray player because it's got the DVD, and with kids it just makes sense - you get a Blu-ray for home, a DVD for the car, and a Digital Copy to use elsewhere.

That said, digital copies are utterly, utterly useless to me. I find the fact they expire patently ridiculous. I think the installation procedure is silly, and I can't fathom buying a product that expires and limits my access so much.

I rarely watch movies on my phone, and it's just not worth the memory drain and the hassle. If I really want one, I can make or download my own. Yes, the latter is sketchy, but personally I don't have a moral problem with it and if the MPAA wants to come knocking because I download a copy of a movie I own, I'll take the hit (sort of how I don't feel bad about downloading a show I missed - if I care enough to download it, I care enough to buy the DVD/Blu-ray when it comes out, so they are getting my $).

So I wish that every "combo" pack had an alternative version. I don't even care if it's that much cheaper, I just don't need the extra crap most of the time. For example, a horror movie - how many people actually need a Blu version, a DVD version, and a digital copy too? It just seems the audience for these packs is extremely limited, we just don't know that because for so many discs there is not the option.

What I really liked was the "Knight and Day" Holiday Pack. Inside the box you got the Blu in a Blu case, and the DVD in a DVD case. It was also five bucks cheaper than the "combo" pack, and I have a DVD in a case I can pass on to someone else. I do that often with DVD copies of films that come with Blu's, but I usually have to stick it in a disc envelope or something.

Best of both worlds, though, we'd have a choice between the two. I think as time goes on we will see a reduction in these "combo" packs, though. For most movies, and most people, I just don't think they make a whole lot of sense.

Time to kill the DVD I think.
Give people the choice of Blu or Blu.
That might help saturate homes with Blu Ray players?

Still, a digital copy at no additional cost is kind of nice

Cheers

Most of the combo packs I have are Disney and they are often ~$12 after coupon on release day so I don't experience the raise the prices part.

With movies like Fantasia, Snow White, Beauty and the Best, and Monsters Inc I tend to sell my DVD copy so it is nice the "give" one back to me.

If they reduced the price on the combo packs a bit they would totally serve a useful purpose.

Imagine if you're on the edge about upgrading to blu-ray or plan on doing so at a later date. What better way to buy a movie than to future proof it? DVD now, blu-ray is there when you finally need.

Great idea initially...not so hot in practice yet.

Thing is, most people who don't have blu-ray capabilities aren't looking to spend extra $$ to have that blu just in case. Now if the price were a little more attractive...whole different ballgame.

I really have no use for the digital copy or the DVD. I could give away the DVD or loan it out to others I suppose but I'd rather not pay for something I don't care about despite the extra cost not being astronomical. On the other hand... I'm already doing that with cable. Pay for 800 channels, actually watch about 6.

For me, there is no point.

I never used any of the digital copies that have come with the Blu-ray I bought and never will.

Also there is no point for me for a DVD, if I am buying a Blu-ray it's because I did not want a DVD.

That being said I don't wish them away, I know they are very useful to a lot of people even I dont use them. I wish they would include a Blu-ray only version right from day one. I know that in a lot of cases they will do so later on.

As long as the combo pack comes in blu Ray packaging I don't really have an issue. I never use the DVD though.
