Default Do you want to buy BD/DVD/Digital Copy Combo?

Recently, I am kinda disappointed by BD vendors' marketing trick: BD/DVD combo and raise the price tag...

When I decided to upgrade my DVD library to BD, I just want BD not DVD. Otherwise, I will buy an 1080p DVD up converting player/BD player (for using its 1080p DVD up conversion function only) instead.

I am just wondering, how many people here wants to pay extra to get the so-called "combo" version?!

I like combo packs because I can use the DVD when I travel and also lend out the DVD instead of the blu-ray whenever possible.

I don't mind if my Blu-ray comes with a Digital Copy or DVD or both. If I had to choose, I'd rather have a DVD so I can make my own digital copy.

I'm not sure I see the 'trick' here.

I have little interest in DVDs and even less in digital copies but I don't think I've ever been tricked into buying any. If a combo pack is the best deal I'll buy it. Otherwise I won't.

Angry I hate DVD's!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loathe combo packs, I want the blu ray NOT the DVD. But flippers are worse. I plan on selling all my DVD's from combo packs in one big auction so I can be rid of them. I now also have a computer with a blu ray drive, I wanted a laptop with a blu ray drive, I would not budge on that. F the DVD's! I will watch a DVD, but I will do so ONLY if it's not on blu ray, or if the blu ray is a piece of $hit, like the first Gladiator or Jim Carrey's Grinch. Sorry rant over.

i dont mind the dvd. sometime it gets use, mostly not though. the digital copy however is a waste of space. never used one, but i keep the disc in the case cause i like the extra weight.

Exactly.

I know people who WILL NOT buy blu-ray w/o a combo pack. That way they can view while traveling (laptop, vehicle, hotel, portable DVD player, cabin...).

This is especially true for those of us w/kids. When there are multiple viewing venues (family room, bedroom, vehicle, etc...) this gives flexibility.

Recently the Harry Potter collection went on sale, my friend didn't bite because it was blu-ray only.

As usual, there can be two truths...it's true some people want them, it's true some people don't.

I just received my 59.99 Disney/Sony blu-ray player so now all rooms can have blu-ray capability. My car, portable DVD player and laptop do not share that capability...so combo packs until further notice.

that's what i've been saying. i wouldn't mind if there's a digital copy, but i think it's ridiculous to have it on it's own disc. it could be on the DVD disc, or have a card with the code and a url to download it from

Agreed! It'd save them considerably that much of money. They have to be wise to not waste discs.

I have no problem with studios including DVD's & Digital Copies, but I'm not interested in paying extra for them. If they're going to release an edition with all those add-ons and up the price because of it, then they ought to release a standalone Blu as well.

I would buy BD/DVD/DC combo if there's one available, otherwise just BD or with either. It would be great to watch on non-BD players around in my house or even to loan to friends who don't own BD players. I've no problems with vendors' marketing as long as I see it's only few dollars more, but if it's $10 more, then they can forget it.

I only buy the combo packs because those are usually the editions with the second Blu-ray full of special features. I don't use the DVDs or Digital copies so I don't mind, but only when it is one disk. I don't like having two extra disks like on Prince of Persia. I prefer the way Iron Man 2 does it, the third disk is both DVD and DC.

I buy the BD/DVD/DC combo packs whenever I can. The BD's the most important thing obviously. The DVD's good for my laptop, and possibly as a backup if I let a friend borrow the BD. The DC's also good for the laptop; most importantly though if the DC is on its own disc I'll store it elsewhere and replace the three-disc case with a two-disc one, so I can use the three-disc case somewhere else.

I like that some studios include DVDs with the Blu-Ray. I almost always manage to find good deals when I buy movies, so I don't feel like i've been paying extra for them. I have several times when I use the DVDs. I don't have a blu-ray player in my room, and I like to go to sleep watching a movie, so I just use the DVD. Also, my blu-ray player has been acting crappy lately and I don't have the money to buy a new one just yet, so when it won't work, I'm glad I can still watch the DVD. No, it's not as good as the Blu-Ray, but I think I'll survive.
I understand some people having no use for them, but having the DVD isn't hurting you in any way. I know it does feel a little stupid if your blu-ray comes with a DVD and you still have your old DVD copy (I have Misery on Blu-Ray and 2 DVD copies ). But if I don't want the DVD, I'll just give it to a friend or family member who wants it.
I also have no real use for the digital copies, though. I just can't watch a movie on a small ipod screen (it will give me seizures if I stare at that screen for such a long time). And like others have said, the fact that they expire is kind of stupid. What if you buy a movie from the store, but the digital copy is already expired? They should just give you some kind of code with the movie to let you download it.

I like them for family movies like Pixar films or other such titles, because my daughter doesn't have a Blu-ray player. But the digital copies are of no value to me. I can make my own DCs if I need to, with no DRM hassles.

As long as it doesn't affect the price, I like having a DVD copy. Not everybody has upgraded yet, and if you ever want to watch your movies somewhere else it's good to have a standard release just in case.

I hate digital copies, though. Completely worthless to me.. and then they expire, so if I ever do want to use them they'll probably be outdated.

When it basically is a no brainer regardless if you don't utilize the digital or DVD copy, why not? Just look at the Inception deal. That wasn't the first and obviously will not be the last great deal on release day no less. No waiting around for it to drop and it is something you really wanted to begin with on day one.
