Default Transformers HD DVD down to 13th place from 4th overnight (Heroes ranking even worse)

Yesterday, http://www.eproductwars.com/dvd/index.cfm#1 showed Transformers to be at #4 in DVD ranking at Amazon. This morning it quickly dropped down to #13...it only took 24 hours for the initial Transformer's HDDVD buzz to die down....mean while 300 and Planet Earth are still selling strong on BLURAY as if they were release yesterday.

Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition) [HD DVD]
Price: $27.95
Release date: October 16, 2007
Sales rank: 13

Heroes - Season 1 [HD DVD]
Price: $69.95
Release date: August 28, 2007
Sales rank: 80 (Behind both 300 and Planet Earth on Bluray)

Just goes to show you, HDDVD cannot hang on for very long, if they had a strong consumer base, then their initial good numbers should continue go up or stay the same for a good 2-3 months....their numbers sky rocket for 2-3 days then they drop like flies overnight!

Meanwhile BLU sales of the same movie are always consistent for weeks and months at times...

Just an observation....thats all.

thats cause there are only about 400k people in the world who buy hd dvd. there simply isn't enough to support a title over a long period of time.

As I predicted, virtually everyone who wanted Heroes got it last week

And yes, HD fans tend to be preorder *****s, you were just seeing the blitz. "gotta get my order in fast, even though it's not shipping for weeks!!!!"

Yeah I never understood what the big thing about pre-ordering months in advance is...it's not like any movie has such a high demand that if it's not pre-ordered you won't get it for a month. I still get my movies on Tuesday from amazon whether I've pre-ordered the day before or a week before. I'd rather not pre-order cause then I'm more likely to buy other things forgetting I pre-ordered something else already! Sorry a little off topic

This would have happened regardless of the format. Heroes just wasn't a big title, and it came out really close to when season 2 starts. You either get a TV season before the new one starts, or not at all. Might see another boost in Heroes for DVD when the new season starts up, as some will want to catch up on the story.

I feel this happens to most TV seasons on DVD, as you really can't put much stock in a TV season selling wildly. Exceptions would be things like South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, or really any other show where the episodes were mostly standalone. 24 has its seasons as mostly standalone, so that may work as well, but I feel to a lesser extent.

Moved to off-topic. Doesn't belong in Blu-ray movies section.

I could agree with your on TV Shows, But that still doesnt justify why a recent 2007 blockbuster like Transformers on HDDVD is quickly slipping through the ranks to 13th from 4th just 20 hours ago. It just explains how HDDVD-ers market is...very trendy and very short-lived even on the biggest of movies! By the way everyone, The Simpsons movie made almost $500 million box office worls wide, falling $200 million short of Transformers....that doesnt say a whole lot of about Transformers, especially when each POTC 2 and 3 made $1 BILLION each worldwide! If Transformers and Shrek3 are the only two "WILD Cards" that Toshiba/HDDVD can pull then trust me, they gotta another thing coming for them!

Exactly. Heroes had one chance to shine, and that was on release week when all the pre-orders booked. It has ZERO chance of registering significantly from now on.

It's funny, if anything HD DVD is showing increasingly poor legs on titles. They peak later and drop faster nowdays.

What the heck are you talking about? So right now, TFs is the 13th most popular movie on Amazon - or, out of the tens of thousands of discs on Amazon, only 12 movies are currently selling better. And 20 hours ago, only 3 discs were selling more. Or, you could say it is currently the 2nd best selling pre-order on Amazon. Heck, it is even currently ranked above the DVD version.

Now - you are saying this is bad? This movie is selling very well, and will continue to do so - especially once it is released. But again, I would guess most people expected this.

Complain all you lilke about HD-DVD, but to point to this as a negative, is close to insane.

Transformers is currently the 13th best seller on Amazon in the DVD category - this includes DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu Ray. It is currently the #1 best seller in the HD-DVD categoy. The #1 best selling BR is Planet Earth, which is #62 in the DVD category.

That is very TRUE. hddvd gets a new release burst then sales drop like a rock. hddvd cannot sustain sales momentum in the short run, let alone the long run.

BD 300 are still selling huge right now.

BoG was really not THAT good of a movie... it won't contribute much to HD VD sales anymore.

Wow, you couldn't tell around here. I lost count of which title had more threads about it around here: Transformers or Blades of Glory.

Had to be at least a dozen thread per film, if not more. Literally.

Yeah, seems a little like mountains out of molehills... now Transformers will certainly have an impact, but it's only ONE movie. I liked it quite a bit, but never enough to buy an HD VD player, and I won't buy it on DVD either, until Paramount comes crawling back to the Blu-ray side.

I think ALL Transformers threads should be merged into one thread, it would make things much... neater.
