Default Walmart sell Blu-Ray under $400

I was shopping at Walmart two days ago. They sell Philips BDP9000 for $398.00 and Toshiba Hd-D1 for $298.00. Compare what it use to be $800-$1000.

Although this is good news what will really generate excitement is when the S300 itself finally goes below $399 for the standalone player crowd (non-gamers, PS3). I think all eyes are on the Sony in particular (most name brand recognition).

I have the BDP9000 and to tell you the truth having seen the BDP-S300 in action, I did not see much difference between the two. I also think that the Philips player looks better esthetically.

By the way, I bought my BDP9000 for $200 brand new off of Ebay about three and a half months ago. Talk about a good deal.

Having owned the bdp-1000 (bdp9000's daddy) And now owning the BDP-s300, I wouldn't trade you. Sure, the sammy/philips will remember your spot when you shut down, and boots slightly quicker...but everything works better on the Sony...especially menu's on the pirates discs, Big fish, behind enemy lines etc.

regardless $400 is a great price at walmart.

Not an open box, if so the tag would have been yellow and said Open Box.

Tell me you wouldn't have bought a BDP9000 for $200 brand new before all these new generation players came out?

Don't do a direct comparison between the BD-P1000 and BDP9000 because many of the problems the Samsung player had has been fixed with the Philips player. Ironically, I just watched Big Fish two nights ago and Enemy Lines two weeks ago without any problems whatsoever. The menus work like a charm too. Honestly, to me the Sony BDP-S300 is pretty "blah". It doesn't excite me at all.

As a matter of fact, I probably won't get excited about a player until around or just after Christmas. My next player has to be full featured (bitstream support of next generation audio codecs, HDMI 1.3 and at least profile 1.1 capable), otherwise there is no point in purchasing a new one.

A sharp Aquos with 1080p and 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio comes in hand in hand with the PS3 blu-ray player. Looks Excellent!!!!!

plays fine, menu's are just sluggish....this has been reported many times. BTW, what are the "Many of problems" fixed on the bdp9000?

Nothing out there excites me right now, it's more of the same...however I am glad I can watch a standard def DVD thats 4:3, in 4:3
does philips firmware allow 4:3 or does it stretch it too?

I don't have any 4:3 movies to test with. All of my DVD's are widescreen.
