Hey im looking for a 50 to 55 inch Plasma TV. I'm looking to spend a grand at most. I want a good name brand set though. I don't wanna go to cheap. 3D and internet isn't important to me. I found this LG 50PZ550 Huppins through amazon has it for $780 shipped. the 3d doesn't matter, looked like a good price to me just wondering others opinions

After seeing the flagship LG model at the Value Electronics shoot-out last night and today, I would steer clear of LG at all costs. The contrast on this years LG plasma displays is, to put it plainly, awful. The color accuracy on the LG displays is pretty great, but the 'blacks' are pretty much gray. Also, the LG seemed to exhibit a lot more image retention than the other two plasma's on display. Keep in mind I'm talking about the flagship model from LG. I can't even imagine how much worse the PZ550 is.
I think you would be much happier checking out the Panasonic 50ST30 or 55ST30. The 55 is about $150 more than your wanted price, but those 5 extra inches will make a difference. & The 50inch is $969, which is a fantastic price for such a great performing display. 50 ST30 55 ST30 Good luck man, hope this helps. ![]() Last edited by Gempulse; 10-10-2011 at 05:55 AM. |

I would agree, too, stay clear of LG. Best to choose from Panasonic or Samsung. 3D or not 3D - does not really matter as it is always your choice to turn on that feature if you want to. In our case we were all sold on Panasonic until the day we actually went to purchase and the Samsung appeared to our eyes to be "more natural" - whatever, we haven't looked back and are very happy watching our Blu-Ray collection and college football on our Samsung. Our Blu-Ray Player is a Panasonic. Don't forget to invest in a 7.1 Hi-Fi Receiver - you deserve the best sound delivery for your best choice in HD Plasma Television. We went with Sony for the receiver. As you can see we spread the cash around - HDTV, Blu-Ray Player ,Receiver and Speakers (JBL). Go figure???

![]() The ST30 is probably the best bang-for-your-buck display of 2011. |

Thanks for all the input guys. A receiver and surround sound set up will come later. Need to save money for other stuff at the moment. Ill stay away from LG then, also ill gonna need a 42 to 47 inch LCD TV. I'm trying to buy both for under $2000 total. The Plasma is gonna be the main TV while the LCD is for the bedroom.

In 50-55" I agree on ST/GT. 51" Samsung has worse black level than 59 and 64. In 60" range, 7000/8000 over GT/ST IMO.

I recently bought a 55" ST30 and couldn't be happier. It's a big improvement over the Samsung plasma it replaced.
You shouldn't have much trouble finding the 50" ST30 for under $1000, but it may run a little over your budget if you buy somewhere that charges you tax. |
