Default Local BB screws BD once again

Never mind the fact that they stock maybe 20 movies on BD.

They at least used to give equal shelf space for HD-DVD.

Now they have expanded HD-DVD and caused BD to be split such that you have a non-contiguous BD display. Some can be found in one location, but you have to go around the corner to find HD-DVD.

When I saw this I had initially thought "wtf happened" ?

Oh well.

Guess BB's approach varies from location to location, but here in lower bucks, they have always given BD the shaft.

Yes this depends on location. Most BB stores that I have seen have 3 sections for Blu-ray and 2 seconds for HD-DVD. Most Stores also have a seperate "browsing cart" loaded with blu-ray disks on the main walking strip somewhere in the store. It's good to check both locations when looking for disks.

This is the same setup too for the Best Buy over here. I checked in the usual spot where the BDs where and I panicked for 1 second and said did they get rid of BDs?? Then I walked around the corner and there it was, the Blu-Ray section. If it were up to me, I'd rather have the BD and HD-DVD sections flip flopped, as there's more traffic on the HD-DVD side.

The BB here in Toronto has been pretty good. They had about 200 copies of FF on Tuesday (I saw the boxes being opened up) and the BD section is slightly bigger than the HD-DVD. Around the block, HMV's BD section is now a third bigger than the HD-DVD section. Futureshop has massively expanded the space for BD in the past 30 days but not for HD-DVD which makes the BD section look three times a big.

This is extremely excellent news. The Blu-Ray section in my Best Buy has made some strides to supporting Blu, but HD-DVD is still very much right there as well. The Target across the street is a complete mess and has a very small Blu-Ray and HD-DVD section. Funny thing is the small selection of movies that they do have are usually sold out on Blu, but HD-DVD is always there.

i don't actually think the clerks in BB or Target actually plan this. i think they just needed space and wrapped BD around the corner.

but what bugs me is the limited selection of titles. they have huge numbers of copies of the same few titles.

target is the same.

until i really started looking online, i was under the assumption that there was very little to purchase on bluray.

Here in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, MD and the other two stores that I have been to locally, they have three different secions that contain BDs. They have one main section which consists of BDs, and HD-DVDs. Then they have two different displays which one features the Sony BDP-S300 player hooked up to a Sony 1080p TV, and the other is a Samsung hooked up to a Samsung 1080p TV. Both of these displays contain what I can best describe as a small shoebox type display that has a few copies of about 5 different titles. IMO, they should have it all in one location. The reason is because I don't even work there, but people have asked me on more than one occasion where is a certain title that they are looking for and I have to tell them and walk them over half of the store to get the title that they was looking for. Other than that, no real complaints from me. At least they still have slightly more titles for Blu than Red.

I work at a best buy here in Miami, and the manager decide whats what. My Manager is a huge HD Dud supporter and I have argum.... i mean discussions with him on the subject all the time. In the warehouse we have piles of Blu ray discs but the shelf space is 2 to 2. All be cause of his lil 360 add on.

Dern, I was just going to post something exactly like that. Depends on which player the manager bought.

ps. Do you work at the Best Buy near Dadeland (dadeland south they call it now.) I spent 10 or more years just around that area. That's a nice Best Buy,.. the Target next door at least can count on favoring Blu Ray per contract.

Yeah, I've talked to some employees at my local BBy and CC (NW FL) and have heard the same about it finally being up to the manager(s) and not how much more one format is outselling the other.

Last time I checked BBy it was dead even as far as space devoted goes. Oh well, I rather buy online and be able to buy more BDs with the money I save. B&Ms are too expensive IMHO.

I must say my local Best Buy here in Pa...ic very good with there Blu selection, they usually get there new releases on time or even before they are already on the shelves.

Its also one of the only places that I see they always have it neat and in alpabetical order.

Just hope they would come down in prices so i can spend more there.

My best buy used to have a 2:2 split with HD DVD towrads the front of the aisle. Tuesday when I went in they changed the split to 4:2 in favor of Blu-ray. They also moved the HD DVD sections to the back fo the aisle.

Only thing was the HD-DVD were tightly packed into the 2 sections making it look like they had more tittles or just more stock like no one was buynig them.

the blu-ray 4 sections was spread out thinly looking like less titles or they were selling more.
