Default Full Metal Jacket (original release) VS Full Metal Jacket (Deluxe Edition)

So what's the difference? I heard teh transfer for the first was crap so is the deluxe edition remastered (like The Fifth Element)? Are there more special features? WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?!?!?!? Thanks in advance...

this is slightly OT but I figured this was the best thread to ask, I've seen clips of this film, only of that guy yelling cursing and berating the subordinate soldiers, I'd be happy to buy this film (to support WB) but I was wondering what the appeal is for this film.

If you're a Kubrick fan, you don't have to ask.
Basically, think "Dr. Strangelove writes 'Platoon'".

(And as for GnSgt. Hartman, this was R. Lee Ermey's first starmaking performance, with art imitating technical-Marine-consultant life:
No one played a better complete lunatic in any of Kubrick's films, HAL and Jack Nicholson included.)

Yah I heard bad things and I held off. A friend of mine bought a copy of the old one and it was pretty bad in quality. But I really want this movie and I would love to know in this new version is re-mastered.

Though I didn't see the movie, didn't he sort of do a similar peformance in The Boys in Company C which was 10 years prior to FMJ?

I heard an interview with him once and in both movies he mentioned that he started off as a techinical advisor but ended up with the part that he was advising as nobody could do it as well as he could.

It is, bar none, the worst BD transfer in my collection. Glad to see a new release being created... just hope the encode is better.

great analogy! I have the original DVD of this classic Kubrick film signed by R. Lee Ermey when he came to a local air show held in my area...and no, it's not "BULLSH*T". I'm not one for useless threads, but there should def. be one dedicated to our favorite Ermey quotes from this movie.

He has a cameo in Apocalypse Now as a helicopter pilot.

This movie sucks after the first half.

To those who've seen it you know what I'm talking about.

FMJ has been one of favorite movies for a long time, so I was disappointed to see what a crap job they did transferring the movie to Blu-ray. The upscaled DVD looks much better. Hopefully the new version will be improved.

Agreed. Indulge me for a second while I illustrate how it's even influenced our Japanese brethren into learning better English:
