I just entered the market. have a ps3 and just bought a nice 42" plasma, and have initially bought a copy of Ultraviolet. LOVE IT.
but that movie cost almost $33. I just can't justify paying that much for a single movie, even if it's in HD. I see that amazon has some blu-ray's out there that are previously viewed (used) and are much lower in price (IE: $14 to $19) Has anyone ever had a bad experience buying used? (IE: scratches to the point that the movie skips or won't play properly). I'm thinking this is really the way to go until the prices come down. Thanks for the input in advance. |

I've bought a few used at Gamestop and they were pristine. Bought The Departed used on Ebay and it was great too. I've ordered a few on Amazon but they haven't come yet, but I wouldn't doubt them being too bad. To be honest I have yet to see a scratch on a Blu-Ray except for a copy of Silent Hill I rented from Blockbuster Online. It didn't have a scratch there was a Crack in it! But then again the movies you'll be buying aren't shipped through the mail in a paper slipcase and watched tons of times and put through God knows what while rented.

Like other have posted I too have had no problems buying used from eBay.
You can also get pretty good discounts on new through mail order as well. eBay, Amazon, Deep Discount DVD all have really good deals. Check out dvdpricesearch.com They list the prices of dozens of online resellers. If you do buy from brick/mortar retailers do not forget about rewards programs. Borders, Barns & Noble, Best Buy. They may charge full, or near full retail for their non new release general stock, however through their rewards programs you get some of your money back. I have 8 Blu-ray movies and I have never paid more than $25.00 (usually less than $20) for one. So, if you are on a budget (like me), and are willing to put a little work into it you can find really good deals out there. I would also add; if your Blu-ray player is also a Playstation 3 the same goes for the games as well. If you do not have to have the newest game on release day and spend a little time on the net you do not have to spend 60 bucks on games. I just recently purchased a used game for $35 and a new (never opened) game for $45.00; both via mail order. |

right now the blu ray discs are fairly new so in most cases the discs should be in good condition. When I look for used bd on ebay I make sure the seller describes the condition and wether or not it is mint and complete with mint case. If the seller just states used and nothing more I move on to the next one just to be safe.

ive been buying my new ones from amazon and walmart, while used i go to gamestop, most are 17.99 to 19.99 and you get 10% off with an edge card, i even picked up an unrated version of talladega nights for 12 bucks, so they are the most reasonable place i have found yet. i tried to look on ebay but most of the used ones had no case, so f that in the a.

The only thing you really have to worry about is the case being mint.
Blu is required to have a protective layer of plastic that makes them almost impossible to scratch to the point where it would skip (unlike dud)... So just look for good cases and you should be safe in your buy. |

There is nothing wrong with buying used, you will get them for half price most of the time. Yes, Amazon has used titles for almost any and all releases. The comment from someone on Gamestop is correct. Just make sure when you buy them at retail you really hold up the disk and check for damage. Also, I know that BB has specials every week on various titles and I have seen Ultraviolet as low as $19.00 on sale. The deals are out there. |
