A saleperson at CC told my Dad he assured him there would be no price drop this holiday season for TV's because they lost too much money on dropping the price last year. He even went on to say prices might rise!! Anyone with common sense knows that the cost and price of technology gradually drops so this seemed like complete BS to me. Does anyone think this guy was right or is he just full of sh*t?

I work at CC and I can tell you prices fall. But most people in our industry do not expect the fallout like last year had, so prices wont drop as much in percentage from last year but it will go down.

Black Friday (Day after Thanksgiving) is the day you'll want to check out for the best deals on cheap HDTV's. I say cheap because it is usually on the nonbrand name displays. But they are great starter tv's. Last year at our office we picked up two 37" for $500 each.
As for brandname stuff we should still see the same modest sales and bundles as any other holiday season. |

The problem is that LCD panel supply is less than demand
They have to get the TV prices down because they need 27" equiv(32inch) models under $500 for the next group of consumers to bite Lots of stores have dropped CRT, and that's just going to continue because people are willing to pay more for the flat |

Well, we know how the price has been rising. This in turn can increase the price of electronics, even if slightly. A few nickles and dimes per part in a tv with hundreds of pieces, and suddenly the price is dollars more! The alternative is to make housings flimsier and with cheaper materials. So, either we pay the cost or suffer the cost of not paying it. We can hope that other substrate materials and manufacture process helped lower the total cost on the whole. The price of oil affects the economy more than you think guys. It's not just the cost of shipping which rises. Glass tubes are still cheap because sand is so abundant and virtually free. But we still need fuel to melt and process it. I can see prices falling, maybe not as sharply as we hope. Last edited by tron3; 10-17-2007 at 06:49 PM. |

There is no such thing as "no price drops" or "no sales" in the United States. This is a consumer market driven by prices, and there is no greater reason or time to drop prices on consumer electronics then the Holiday Season. This is the time of the year when most manufacturers make the bulk of their revenue/profit.

Well all you have to do is wait 11 days if you are going to get the TV from Best Buy. Since with the 60 day price match it will take you until the day after Christmas. Then you donot have to worry about the line in the morning to get it.

Television is one of the few areas in retail in which they make profits and rarely sell close to actual price. Unlike many laptops which make little to no money or sometimes costs the company money when they are sold for about $400.
But some brands might be found cheap. There's a westinghouse 42" 1080p LCD going for about $1200 at my best buy. |
