Default Better codec/Dual Layer?

Anyone know what movies are going to be DL, and or offer the VC-1 codec for sure?

I have read that some movies where noted as being DL specific such as black hawk down (anyone know of any others?). and that after the first 4 BR titles from Warner launch, all others will be VC-1 after that. But I havent been able to find a Link to any solid info, just all Forum banter.

If anyone has anything...I think this would be a cool source for info.

Thanks,
Brian

I don't believe there are any facts on this subject. All I've seen is tons of speculation.

allegedly, they had already produced the first four flicks in mpeg2 (probably not knowing it was going to be an issue on SL).

Then, all the hooplah over VC-1 vs. Mpeg2 on SL came about and they have decided they want to give consumers on boths sides great content.

Note,
This is all speculation until WB makes a public announcment on this.

You know, MPEG2 on SL is not necessarily an issue per se.

As some have noted in various places, the DTheater tapes which were MPEG2 look fine and many would fit nicely on a SL BD. Of course there would not be a lot of room for other things...

In any case, the point here is that the WB ones may look fine if they came from good masters and were authored well. Even with MPEG2.

Of course, they may also look substandard. Only time will tell

The only thing I have heard (rumor) is that the disc mastering authoring software is only available from Sony at this time. This software currently supports.... guess it... That's right! MPEG2. So, if this is accurate then until a company issues mastering software that supports VC-1 and/or AVC we are stuck with MPEG2.

Of course, as said above, a solid encode should look excellent and DL discs (if they exist) may give the headroom necessary for a phenomenal image.

I was also wondering about the fact that the discs contain so many different audio tracks at times that its unreal. Why can't they take off the French PCM5.1 soundtrack, or additional DD soundtracks that are taking up space that better quality video could be using. Why can't we just have PCM 5.1 and DD that can be downsampled to PCM 2.0? What about special features? If they were in HD, sure give all the special features that could be fit onto the disc. I'm not sure if I'm alone in this, but I didn't pay $1000, to watch SD content.
