Default Total Recall 2012 BD Disc Exchange Program

okay so a gentleman from Sony called me today and said he will be sending me an email on how to fix this issue.. it looks like they will be doing an exchange program..

heres the information everybody

Quote:
Dear Valued Consumer,

We apologize for any inconvenience regarding the sound quality with the release of Total Recall Bluray disk. We are currently in the process of re-producing Bluray disks that will not have these sound issues.

There is a work around available for your current disk. The best way to work around this issue is change your audio output settings on your Blu-ray player. You should be able to change your player's output from "Bitstream" to "PCM". Each player is going to be a little different, but this can typically be done in the player's menu or settings. If you have any questions on this process for your player, please contact the manufacturer of your player.

If adjusting you audio settings does not work, Sony will be offering an exchange for your current disk with the new re-mastered disk. To receive a replacement disk please reply with:

The UPC number from the case:

Your Name:

Address (No PO's):

Contact Phone Number:

You will then receive an email with instructions to return your disk to us.

The exchange process can take 3 to 5 weeks (or longer depending on the date the replacements are available).

Regards,

Consumer Affairs

Reading that email from Sony, it seems that they will replace the disk only if you cannot process the TrueHD audio in your player and send LPCM to your receiver/

"If adjusting you audio settings does not work, Sony will be offering an exchange for your current disk" How would they verify that?

Obviously, it is more sensible to wait for the firmware update to the players that Sony is also working on according to todays Digital Bits.

I'm beginning to wonder if SPHE divisions are talking to each other.

There is a big assumuption that every manufacturer will even roll out this fix to their firmware.

Furthermore i dont see how setting my player to PCM is a actual solution, simply a workaround. I dont want to have to wrry about flipping my settings back to PCM just to play this disc and i personally prefer my amplifier to do the decoding of the intended HD audio track, that being TrueHD. Wonder how this will work for people who bought the US version from overseas? Dont understand why they want the orignal back since its a dud, plus that means we will be without a disc for a few months. Seems a bit unfair.

The studios should send a copy of about to be released BDs to equipment manufacturers so they can release firmware updates before the discs are released to the public.

Makes me wonder why anyone preorders these days. Preorderers are beta testers for the latest copy protection.

Sony, like most of the Hollywood studios, fired just about everyone in the great home video downsizing of 2008-2010. There is hardly any budget left for conveniences like quality-control testing.

every exchange program wanted the originals back.. Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, Pirates of the Caribbean, Out of Africa.. Firmware update would make sense but it looks like they are going to be shipping out the remastered disc to stores.. i don't know why they gave me 2 options.. i told the guy over the phone "is one of the solutions switching over to PCM" and he said yes, and i told him that really isn't a solution and he agreed and said in the email it will explain something new we did to correct this.. so again i will keep you guys posted on my new disc.. if it works than great! if it doesnt than i will seek other solutions.. but like you i wont be switching over my audio to watch this, the lossless is great and the 2ch pcm is unwatchable for me

Given this situation, I would say that this movie has one of the most appropriate titles ever.

Not Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 and Phantom of the Opera (but I do have to cut the whole back cover off).

I just got an email but they just told me the workaround for the Oppo. No mention of an exchange program. That's bullshit.
