Default Almost Human on FOX

Another J.J. Abrams show for a pilot:

Quote:
Star Trek‘s J.J. Abrams has wisely added Trek alum Karl Urban and Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly to the cast of his Fox pilot. The new series, called Human, is described as an action-packed buddy cop show set in a future where all LAPD officers are being partnered up with highly evolved human-like androids. TV Line reports that Urban will play a character named John Kennex, a respected police officer who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission left him critically injured. Hit the jump to find out more casting news for Human.

The Wrap reports that Minka Kelly will play a character named Valerie Stahl, described as a uniformed cop with a strong moral compass who believes the best of people.

Also joining the cast is Common Law‘s Michael Ealy who will play Dorian, an android detective paired up with Urban’s Kennex who, ironically, has a better grasp of humanity than his human partner. Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under) will play Maldonado, an ambitious and determined police captain who is willing to make sacrifices for the greater good.

Michael Irby (The Unit) and Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean) have been added to the cast as well.

For the series, Abrams will be re-teaming with Fringe writer/executive producer J.H. Wyman, who is writing the script and also acting as executive producer along with Abrams and Bryan Burk. Directing the pilot is Brad Anderson (The Machinist).

With a producer like Abrams at the helm and stars such as Urban, Ealy, Kelly and Taylor in front of the camera, this sounds like one pilot that may actually make it to series. But even the best ideas can end up never seeing the light of a TV screen, so time will tell if Human will be a hit or a miss.

Always wondered when they'd update "Holmes and YOYO".

I really hope this gets picked up. I know J.J. Abrams seems to have his name attached to a bunch of things right now, but like the article said, that's a pretty impressive group behind and in front of the camera.

But how much does Abrams actually have to do with Human? He's said so himself that he's not actually involved with many of the TV shows that have his name attached, that he's trying to use his name recognition to get TV shows off the ground that he'd personally want to watch.

True, but even if he isn't involved in Human, it's still an impressive group behind and in front of the camera. That doesn't change.

Looks like Fox is picking this show up for fall lineup. But I don't see Minka Kelly's name anymore. Looks like she got replaced.

Quote:
From Emmy Award-winning executive producer J.J. Abrams and creator/executive producer J.H. Wyman and starring Karl Urban, Michael Ealy and Emmy Award nominee Lili Taylor, ALMOST HUMAN (working title) is an action-packed police drama set 35 years in the future, when police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids. An unlikely connection is forged when a cop with an aversion to robots and a robot with unexpected emotional responses investigate cases in a brave new world.

ALMOST HUMAN (wt) is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The series is created by J.H. Wyman, who wrote the pilot. The series is executive-produced by Wyman, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk. Kathy Lingg (“Person of Interest,” “Revolution,” “Fringe”) and Reid Shane (“Fringe”) are co-executive producers. Brad Anderson (“Fringe,” “The Killing”) directed and served as co-executive producer on the pilot.

Looking good.

Although Minka isn't named here. Neither is anybody else who may have replaced her.

Have to say though looking at this line up I kind of wish they did a dredd TV show instead. Had Urban back in the dredd role and could have had Minka as his rookie sidekick.

No need really.

Other than LOST and Fringe ( Both finished) the others are average at best. Revolution, Person of Interest, Alcatraz while not out right terrible are nothing amazing.

I haven't started any of those besides LOST. Heck, I haven't even seen one episode of Alias yet.

I would suggest Fringe then. Fantastic

I haven't seen Alias either though. My comments are based on his shows from LOST onward

In my original post, Minka was suppose to be the main character in this.

Person of Interest is just one of the best series currently on Network TV, but ... ok. It has not only been renewed for a 3rd season, it has increased its ratings season to season (baring the terrible scheduling by CBS and the breaks).

Almost Human sounds very interesting.

I do hope they will at least reference this a little:

I was already in for this TV show. I'm glad to see it got officially picked up, even if that isn't a total surprise. Regardless of how involved J.J. Abrams is with "his" shows now, this is still the same pair that brought us Fringe, and I absolutely love that show (just started the final season).

Me too.

Just when I see this, I can't help thinking of the 90s TV show Mann & Machine

I tend to like the shows that JJ has more involevment with than just having his name attached. Alias is a perfect example of an amazing show that suffered when JJ abandoned it. It's still one of my all-time favorite shows, but the first 2 seasons were perfection. You can pinpoint the moment JJ left to do other projects. I couldn't get into that Undercover show, and I wonder if that just had his name on it and he didn't have much input. Fringe was excellent. I don't know how involved he was with it after pilot, but it was left in good hands. And Lost was great until the final season.
