Chris i am looking at the Onkyo 605. How is it? I know the reviews have been pretty impressive.

I know you didn't ask me, but I love mine. It's comprehensive to use and setup, and it contains virtually every imaginable next gen audio feature. Not to mention, the price is amazing. My only complaint is that the HDMI upconvert is sometimes touchy, but if you didn't plan on sending your video through it, not a big deal at all.

Thanks CK. How do i go about splitting the audio and image with HDMI. I am currently doing this with a HDMI and coax on the PS3.

There isn't much of a need to split the audio/video from a PS3 with the 605. As long as you are using HDMI with devices that natively stay in 720p/1080i/1080p (i.e. PS3 or BD player), things should be perfect. My PS3 and 605 go perfectly together.

My comment about the converting issues was because the 605 down-converts 1080i signals sent over component cables to 720p. I have an outdated digital cable box that only has component connections, so if I were to feed the video through the 605, the 1080i HDTV would be down converted to 720p. Not really a big deal, just a videophile thing. Instead, I just send my cable box's video directly to the TV via component, and send the audio to the 605 through fiber. It doesn't bother me at all, but I thought I would throw that out there just to let you know it's not 100% perfect.

Other than that miniscule little hitch, the 605 has enough connectivity options, next-gen features, and capabilities -- at a low enough price -- to keep me satisfied for years. I was so happy with the Onkyo 605, I complemented it with a 7.1 Onkyo speaker setup. I paid $360 for the 605 it at Circuit City and I am very, very pleased with the investment.

Damn you US and you're awesome deals.

Cheapest I could get the 605 for was $499 up here in Canada from electronicsforless.ca. I now notice the price on that site is $599.

Sorry, dude. I was pleasantly surprised to find it at that price, especially locally. Typically Best Buy outprices Circuit City on a lot of things, but Best Buy (at least around here) doesn't even carry Onkyo. I was reluctant at first, but I knew that $360 price was a 'now or never.' And sure enough, it went back up to $469 a week or two later. Lucky break, I guess. If it's any consolation, $499 is still a heck of a deal given the receiver's specs and feature set, but I understand that being a steep price for next-gen audio.

This is an excellent receiver in it's price range. I got one from J&R Music World, through Amazon for $399, you may want to check that route. Had no issues whatsoever, and the receiver has been fantastic.
