The PS3 is now selling well above expectations. There's a PS3 commercial on the tv right now as I'm typing this.

He said they expect 40million Hddvd and Blu-ray set tops in homes by 2011. Does anyone think that Hddvd will be around that long? With Warner's shaky neutral stance, I don't think this will go on past 3Q 2008.

Thanks to the 80 gig sale at the Wal Mart I work at they have been selling by the boatload! And they said that people don't use them as Blu Ray players. Yeah right.

I can pretty much guarantee you that hd-dvd won't see january 2009 IF Warner goes Blu exclusive !

But that is a big "IF" ...

I found this estimate quite shocking:

There will be 8.7 million software units sold among the two formats in 2007, and 59 million units sold in 2008, U&S predicts.

They really expect to sell close to 7x more software next year? That just seems like an awfully large jump. But here's hoping that if the number holds it's at least 45M:15M for blu.

I work at Target in electronics, and there seems to be much more interest in the PS3 than there used to be. I sold a 40 GB model today, and a 60 on Friday. Plus, a lot more people are asking questions about the different models of the PS3, etc. ALL of them knew about the Blu-ray.

Too bad this article is from August. But it is nice to see.
I wish it was a newer article though cause with the latest prices and other deals, it would be nice to shove this in their face despite all that.

I saw allot of PS3's move this weekend.
BUT I also saw allot of people buying HD-DUD players too.
and every single one of them is a dedicated DUD player.

Sadly I don't see warner going exclusive anytime soon
in light of recent DUD player sales.

Bottom line there isn't a big enough gap in sales to abandon it.
Secondly the DUD revenue that while is small in context,
is too large to ignore.
So they would be foolish to not want a piece of that pie.

We NEED to get at least half of the Multi million PS3's out there
to start buying Blu.

True, but I bet more PS3's were sold than DUD players. People are interested in a system that can do more than just watch movies.

I agree more with this now. They seem to have imporved the marketing of the PS3 as a bluray player with tha 40Gig package.

They need to continue in this direction.

Including the free Spidey 3 movie was also a very good move as well as the 5 free by mail.

I don't know how true that statement really is. Technically, for $399 you do get more for your $$ in a ps3 versus a straight out blu player. If you are a gamer, it is more valuable, but if you DON"T play games and don't care about 1080p, then movie selection is the only thing keeping you from Hd Dud.

If I'm pro HD Dud, my sales pitch is quick. For $199 you can get the same picture quality that your paying for HD HBO (or Whatever HD channel). Now, if the potential customer walks over and looks at the movie selection difference, he may ask what this blu is all about. THen its a different story!

Personally, I still think these new commercials show the gaming too much, the blu hasn't been landed.

My bro in law was over this weekend, he saw the kids playing games, and then we decided to watch spidey 3. I told him to pop it in. He asked "Into what?", I said the ps3. He didn't understand that the ps3 was a blu player, and he's been doing a lot of research on TV's lately in hopes of buying one in the next 2 months.
