Agreed, I saw this in 2D and it was better than I expected. I haven't watched the show in a long time, but I think I liked this one better than the first film, actually. The focus on the main characters was what made it so great, which was something that felt lacking in the first movie.

My favorite sequences were Plankton inside
[Show spoiler]SpongeBob's brain
(complete with the overt reference to
[Show spoiler]The Shining
), and the scenes with Bubbles.

It'd never happen, but it'd be awesome if it came in a yellow case.

Longtime fan of the show but not caught up... Saw the movie opening day and loved it despite not finding newer episodes very good, so this is a day-one buy for me too, in 3D. I'd like to see something like that The First 100 Episodes set done on BD rather than DVD too.

Screw the yellow case. I want this poster art (with tagline) on a SteelBook:

It's too bad they can't have SpongeBob cameo in the other film. He could play Ana's favorite talking contraceptive.

That's their MSRP. It'll probably get sold for half of that.

What's the 3D like with this? Were the traditionally animated sequences in 3D (ala The Lion King conversion) or was that only implemented in the scenes where things were CG animated?

That looks great, almost Criterion-like
The whole superhero thing reminds me mostly of an earlier episode, where the gang get silly superpowers (The Quickster, Captain Magma etc)

both.

and I thought it looked fantastic - I noted this in another thread discussion, but the film is a real hoot and in my mind, funnier than the 2004 movie.

I noticed with The Lion King, and the other Disney conversions, that a lot of the 3D scenes looked reminiscent of those old pop-up books - is that the case here? I'm really interested to see what Spongebob looks like in 3D now!

for the majority of the cel animated portions it's more of layered look (if you've seen 'The Little Mermaid' 3D blu - that's the effect) - the CGI live action bits though have far more pop out in your face moments.
