Default Keep PS3 or buy Pany BD30

I have pondering the idea of selling my 60gig PS3 and getting the pany DMP-BD30. I do not play games. I just bought the PS3 for the blu-ray. will this be a good idea or anyone see a better player coming down the pipe soon?

The PS3 is the only Blu-ray player that will prolly be able to do Profile 2.0 and the load times on stand alone players are annoying.

The only reason not to have a PS3 a Blu-ray player is if you hate the idea of having a game console. Otherwise the PS3 can do everything that stand alone players can do, in some cases it can do them better.

Plus, one day you might get bored or you might be babysitting someone's kid and you can go rent a PS3 game to pass the time.

If you really just dont want to have a game console, at least wait till a Profile 2.0 player is released.

I think you'll find that a lot of people are really happy with the PS3 as their BD player...I am one of these people, but I believe the 30 has some better audio options. I was also one of the people that was disappointed that the 30 doesn't have an ethernet port, but that doesn't matter to some. I heard it said that the 30 also has a bit better picture quality, but I haven't seen it in person or in a side by side comparison so I don't know for sure. If it were up to me I'd stick with the PS3 since it is evere changing and just keeps getting better and better.

I have both PS3 and the Panny BD30 - load time on the PS3 is excellent due to the processor the Panny is not that bad its faster than the other standalone plus the PS3 wont bitstream DOLBY HD AND DTS HD MSTR Pany does. Pretty happy with the Panny just my $.02

I'd stick with the PS3. As others have said the loading times are much better and on the face of it it would seem more future safe than a standalone.

He was talking about the BD30 and not a 30GB PS3.

That's what I did also and very happy with both. Now I can watch BD's and play games in my living room again (PS3) and can get DTS HD Master in my theater room.

The Panasonic will offer slightly better picture, and better sound ability (able to output full DTS-MA, which PS3 can't, at least yet). It will not offer you 2.0 web functionality, and the PS3 will, eventually. But it does offer more audio output options, so if your receiver can decode MA, it might be the way to go.

But it's probably best that you just stick with your PS3 and enjoy it for the wonderful machine it is. The DMP-BD30 is an excellent player, but in a few months there will be a much better selection of comparable standalones -- not to mention price reductions.
