Wondering if Fox will release the supposed Independence Day BD3D conversion before this ...

I'll probably give this a chance, despite having seen the original.

Should be great fun, Emmerich usually delivers the goods. This will be his first 3D movie though, so i'm hoping he goes for strong 3D.

Loved the 3D in this 2nd trailer! I'd seen it before in 2D online and wasn't overly impressed by the look of the film, but wow, with that extra dimension on the big screen, the blockbuster feel really came across. Strong depth and layering, esp. in the big action clips. I have such fond memories of Independence Day 1, Emmerich better not let me down.

Stupid question, is there a place on The Net that has trailers in real 3D?

Or does YouTube have this kind of thing on tap already?

I'd love to setup a phat memory stick with all known 3D trailers and add new ones as they come.

That would be cool. youtube.com is hit and miss. Some of the 3D trailers are authentic with real 3D layers, but too often, there are 3D trailers to new movies that are only auto converted by the video poster, and don't do 3D any favors with the mild, poor 3D of the auto conversions. I found one of this movie and it's flat as a pancake, just pushed into the screen. The theatrical trailer in 3D looks way better.

I had a blast rewatching the new remastered blu ray of Independence Day, the extended cut too which i'd not seen before. It's such an entertaining movie.

I'll have to watch it again before this one is out in theaters. I remember the rumors of an ID conversion, but that never surfaced.

Just got my copy of the 20th anniversary blu ray. Will catch it soon. Only have the DVD. Gather I'm going to be floored by the difference.

This is very surprising if true. Most of the conversions I've seen in the past couple years have been pretty spectacular (Gravity/Titanic/Jurassic Park/Pacific Rim/Gods of Egypt/Jupiter Ascending/Jurassic World/San Andreas - just to name a few).

thankfully for the two IMAX-laser engagements here in the DC area they are 3D (and no 2D) presentations

Sorry to hear about that Creed. Flat? Mild 3D, was that during the dialog shots? And if it's the case, thanks for the heads up, though I want to see this anyway.
Would you say the theater is consistent with the 3D projection? Were you able to sit where you normally would sit while watching the 3D? I know some far off angles in a crowded theater can really affect the 3D.

How does it compare to:
X-Men Apocalypse which I know you've seen? Not as good as the medium 3D layer range? Thanks.

Me too. The trailer's 3D looks medium to strong and it covers a number of various scenes. I'll know for sure soon enough.

Watched it last night in IMAX 3D and to put it bluntly, the 3D was not worth the time of day. Very mild 3D in terms of depth, no popout moments nor was the movie filmed with any kind of 3D shots, angles in mind. Definitely a textbook 2D film with a cheap 3D last minute overlay. Hopefully the home release will be better (often it is for me) but yeah, if you're going to watch it in the cinema you can go watch the 2D version and not miss a beat. With the amount of CGI (which was very high quality mind you) and the scenes in outer space I was expecting some immersive 3D...but no, not this time unfortunately.

When it comes out for home release I'll watch it again and post up my thoughts...a lot of times the 3D films I've watched in the cinema fell flat but redeemed themselves when I watched them in my home cinema on Bluray...so we'll see...

Thanks Nightopian.

So far the reports for the 3D are -2. Did the final action scene look a lot better at least, as it appears in the 3D trailers? Thanks.

No worries. I didn't notice anything special with regards to the final action scene. Nothing stood out to me and I felt the 3D (or lack of) was consistent throughout the whole film.

They played a 3D trailer for Ghostbusters before my screening and that was a lot better than this!

It was mild to medium, mainly mild. It was so pointless. Mild for most of the film. I agree with Night, if you watch it in 2D, you don't miss much. I usually sit in the back when viewing a 3D movie and the theater was empty. My theater has great 3D projection (example, Point Break, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2). The other people that saw it here were disappointed too, so it's not the projection, it's the lazy conversion. X-Men Apocalypse was way better with medium to high medium with pop-outs during the theme. At least Independence Day: Resurgence was enjoyable.
