Default My DVD Sound Better Than my Blu-Ray?!

Hi!

(First sorry for my english i'm from Québec ! )

I bought Playstation 3 3 month ago, it's AMAZING, i'm plug with an optical wire 5.1 trought my receiver (see the model in my signature).

I Bought a lot of Blue-Ray, like them as crazy, but yesterday i decide to watch THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK in DVD and i realize that the sound is LOT better with my dvds than Blu-Ray collection?! Is there any setting i missed?!!?

Check my hardware in my signature?! Is the a rookie mistake i could have done so my Blu-Ray on my Playstation 3 sound good but no GREAT. Even when i put the mode ''auto-reconition'' on my receiver he doesnt write 3/2.1 or DTS like my DVD... he alway write PCM 44.10 i think.

Thx

It's not really about the volume, it's about the quality: the 5.1 effets, surround sound, music vs speach, background effects.

The volume is ok but thx for the tip

Sounds like you have your PS3 set to output in PCM stereo via optical. I'm not at home so I can't walk you through the steps, but you just need to output as bitsream via optical in your setup. Et puis c'est tout.

That is correct. If you have PCM 2 channel enabled via digital optical out on the PS3, it's probably picking up the 2 channel PCM audio track and running it through a matrixed surround processor.

Go into the Blu-ray disc audio menu, select DTS 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 instead of PCM Uncompressed 5.1, and you'll notice an improvement in your surround sound localization and volume level.

The uncompressed 2 channel sound will be fuller sounding, but it will lack the distinct channel separation you're used to.

Yeah this is how I do it... if you really want to hear the great 2.1 sound set your receiver to Stereo mode and watch a BD that has PCM... but if you want surround sound on an optical cable you have to bitstream DD or DTS.
