Default Syfy's "Wynonna Earp" (Season 3)

Here's the summary from Syfy.com:
Quote:
Based on the IDW Comic, Wynonna Earp follows Wyatt Earp's great granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. With her unique abilities, and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she's the only thing that can bring the paranormal to justice.
SEASON 3 PREMIERS JULY 20TH, 2018 (AND JULY 16th) ON SYFY

Buy the Season 1 Region Free blu-ray at IDW!

I didn't see a thread for this and "Wynonna Earp" is too good not to talk about!

For some reason, I thought this was premiering this summer. I just looked it up and realized that the first season is almost over.

Based on its ratings, which are low even by SyFy's standards (link), it looks like this will be the only season of the show.

I gave up on it after the premier. Didn't seem in the least interesting.

I don't think it has had a thread, though it does have a theatrical entry: https://www.blu-ray.com/Wynonna-Earp/564518/

I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but have watched the rest. I've found it to be a show that improves as it goes along. A lot of shows, especially genre shows, need time to find their footing and I think it's getting there. I like that it's less serious than the rest of SyFy's line-up, always with some camp to it.

Maybe some people were turned off by the ads, or the first couple of episodes, or just didn't know it was on? Whatever the case, I think it fun and that it fills a niche.

I completely agree. I have seen last night's episode (and loved it for several reasons) and it's definitely building on what it started. But I also never saw any ads or promos and started watching it cold, which for me is the best way to watch a show so I'm not swayed by expectations. And like any show, you have to watch more than the pilot to get a sense of where it's going.

Frankly, I love how camp it is. It's refreshing to watch something simply for entertainment and not to overanalyze or intellectualize. It's silly, it's serious, it's interesting. More importantly, it's about characters and I love the way all the characters are written and portrayed.

Ultimately it comes down to taste. If you don't like that kind of thing, that's okay. There are plenty of people who do and I'd love to talk to them about it.

I just looked at those ratings. You're right that they're not impressive historically.

However, the only other original scripted shows that have been airing at the same time are 12 Monkeys & Hunters, together on Mondays, which seem to be doing noticeably worse. The network could cancel all 3, there could be factors more important to them than ratings, etc. but comparatively speaking it's doing well in this timeframe against it's "sister" shows, especially as it's all alone on a Friday.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it cancelled, but I think it does have a chance of a renewal.

So far I'm lukewarm to this series (It has improved since the 1st episode IMO). I find it far superior to the incredibly tepid 12 Monkeys or Hunters shows. Just my opinion again - I know others will vehemently disagree with me but I just can't get into 12 Monkeys at all.

I'm actually surprised so few people even knew it was running. Friday is a very good spot for a show so I'm hoping Syfy do have faith in it and didn't intentionally minimize advertising, if that's the case.

I just looked up those ratings, and you're right -- they're terrible. SyFy has really painted itself into a corner by alienating and then driving away so much of its audience through its boneheaded programming decisions in year past. Ironically, the channel is probably airing its strongest slate of programming in quite some time.

However, if all of your shows have terrible ratings, what do you do? Cancel them all and alienate even more viewers? Or keep going and hope the ratings eventually improve?

I'm really enjoying this show. It's like a weekly grindhouse film. I can't get enough of it. Best show Syfy has had in years.

If anyone needs to catch up and has a cable provider (or something along those lines) you can login to the Syfy website and watch all but the most recent episode for free in HD. Plus I think having Adblock in Chrome lets you skip commercials which is nice.

Well it is not solely a Syfy show, it is a Canadian production for CHCH-DT with Syfy. So Syfy numbers are just a factor we will have to see though.

I wasn't sure how much I liked it at first but it grew on me. Kinda feels like some of the 90's syndicated shows.

I could have sworn a thread for this existed but I guess not. Anyways, I've found this show quite interesting. Really like the premise and characters. Was not aware this was from a comic. My favorite character on the show is Waverly...nuff said.

I didn't even know this existed until now since I haven't been watching SyFy. Seems intriguing to me, and I would check it out now that all of the shows have had their season finales, but knowing it's chances of getting a second season would help. I may wait a bit.

Had no clue about this show until last weekend. The Chiller network was running a marathon and I stumbled onto it. Very cool show! Gotta love a hot chick with a big gun!

Enjoyed it. Hope it returns, and isn't off for a year like 12 monkeys was

If it returns it will almost certainly be off for a year. That is the cycle with short season cable series.

I do hope it come back though. A whole lot of questions left.

I didn't get to check it out when it aired, but like I said before, it is intriguing. I'll wait until it get renewed or not to take the plunge and stream it.

Great season finale! Loved Doc Holliday's 10 second season recap to Office Haught!
"...and Dolls is just a dick!"

Can't wait for season 2!
