Kate Beckinsale Says Marvel is Working on a Blade Project

Quote:
Beckinsale is currently at New York Comic-Con and was present at the Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment panel to discuss the fifth installment of the Vampires vs. Werewolves franchise, Underworld: Blood Wars. During the panel, a fan asked about a potential crossover between Selene and Blade. As Beckinsale tells it, such an idea was considered but it was ultimately shelved because Marvel currently has plans for their resident vampire hunter. In response to the question, Beckinsale said:

Quote:
“No. We had that idea. No. They’re busy. They’re doing something with Blade.”
While this is far from confirmation that Blade will be coming to the big or small screen in the near future, it is interesting. Beckinsale would only know this given the supposed talks about the character crossing over with her franchise, but if this is what Marvel told her, it will be interesting to see what direction they take.

If this is PG-13, they're asking for it to fail. Also, bring back Snipes. Nobody can replace him.

If Snipes did come back it would be interesting to see what they'd do regarding the original films. Keep them in continuity (meaning the MCU retroactively goes back to 1998) or leave them as a separate thing with Snipes just brought back as the "new" MCU Blade.

It's 100% impossible that Marvel and Netflix would team up to do a Blade show.

I seriously doubt it will be Wesley Snipes. Marvel Studios has never carried over an actor who played the character in a previous movie, and I don't believe they'd consider Snipes or bringing the previous films into MCU continuity.

And that's fine-- I loved Snipes as Blade. I also loved Michael Keaton as Batman and Tom Jane as The Punisher. Doesn't mean someone else can't play a new version of the character and do it well.

Are you guys smoking the same stuff Snipes was during the production of Trinity? While yes, Snipes was great, don't act like he is irreplaceable. He didn't put in a Daniel Day Lewis level performance. He is absolutely replaceable.

I'd be interested in MARVEL doing a Blade Netflix series. The violence level needed just begs for it.

This would fit perfectly in the Netflix universe and not the Cinematic realm. The character screams dark and gritty like the Netflix shows but so did Ghost Rider and look what the decided to do to him. I do not see this getting a big budget cinematic release because the character never really had anything to do with The Avengers and they had a Blade/Punisher comic series a while back that they could use as the basis for a season of The Punisher

Get over Snipes, Reeves, Keaton, etc.
Mythology is greater than one actor.

I agree. There's only so many jokes I can handle.

I'd rather see a Blade vs Underworld crossover with Wesley taking on Kate.

I love Snipes as Blade, but he's too old for the character now -- even if it's possible The Daywalker ages like a normal human being.

I think Netflix is the best place for it.

I'd like to see someone like Michael B. Jordan as Blade if Snipes isn't up to the physical demands of the role.
If he is, let him have at it.

Can we keep "The Nightstalkers" out of it? Actually, can we pretend Blade:Trinity never happened?

And yeah, R-rating or to hell with it.

I haven't seen any Agents of SHIELD yet, but I did think it was a very bizarre decision to debut the MCU Ghost Rider there. Are people generally liking the character on the show so far?

I would definitely expect Blade to be one of Marvel's Netflix shows, and not part of the Avengers film-line. It seems much more like a natural fit as you said. It would also be cool to ultimately team up Blade with Ghost Rider and other dark characters eventually, like the Midnight Sons line I remember from the comics back in the day.

No MB Jordan. Get a fresh face like Luke Cage.

There are plenty of young actors out there.
